One month into the season and this program has solidly established itself at the bottom of the Conference. 8 goals in 8 HE games. Looking back, this program has produced an average of 1 goal per game for the LAST 4 SEASONS. The goalies are the only ones keeping the games respectable. Brenon has already set the school record for most saves and she's going to be facing over 500 more shots this season! There just isn't much going on up front with any of the players. The Freshman are still trying to figure things out, and the Sophomores, especially the two leading scores on the team last season, seem to have stagnated. The Junior class hasn't really done much and the Seniors, with the exception of Brenon, have pretty much checked out.
Last weekend (Maine & UNH) and this weekend (Merrimack) seemed to be the programs best chance for getting a win early on in the season although Merrimack seems to have figured out how to score after the first few games. Last weekend was more of the same inconsistency the program has shown in the past, even with new players joining the program. The team looks lost, unable to develop anything offensively and willing to accept defeat. Pre-Covid, I had hoped that this program would develop year by year, adding a few key players and slowly making it's way to the middle of the Conference.
Coach Lachapelle will be leaving to coach the U-18 National Team in December/January. At least on that team she will have a full basket of talented players. With the Crusaders, it seems that she has focused on the back half of the ice at the expense of any consistent offensive play. This is going to be a very long season for the team.
