After many years, including nearly four years on the kidney transplant waitlist, I’ve reached end-stage renal disease as my latest eGFR result is 9. I will be seeing a surgeon regarding dialysis options next week, but my nephrologist has stated that the best option is receiving a living donor kidney before I start dialysis, or at worst, shortly after.
I’m hoping to find a person willing to donate a kidney to me and you don’t need to live near Boston to do so. The living donor should not incur any expenses for the evaluation to determine if they are a good donor candidate and medical costs related to the donation procedure are covered by the recipient’s insurance. Any travel, lodging and lost wages are not covered, but as the recipient I’m allowed to cover those costs.
If you are interested, or just want to learn more, please go to the Massachusetts General Hospital Living Donor Program website, as that’s where I’m registered for a transplant. It has a wealth of information, including the process to become a living kidney donor at MGH.

P.S. Get nothing if you know what book I based my thread title on
P.P.S. No best wishes, prayers, "that's terrible" comments, etc. please. I've already got a boatload of those from family and friends who don't want to be a living donor for me.
