BEVELRY, Mass. – CJ Hapward of the Suffolk men's hockey team garnered his third Conference of New England Goaltender of the Week honor after a 2-0-0 weekend between the pipes, the league announced Tuesday.
Hapward turned aside 60 saves and assembled a 1.50 GAA and 95.2 save percentage en route to victories over Wentworth and Western New England. The triumphs were crucial to the blue-and-gold's playoff position as it secured home ice advantage for the first round of the CNE Tournament, which will officially announce its bracket following the conclusion of the regular season action this upcoming weekend.
The West Caldwell, New Jersey product opened the weekend in Eastie with a 35-save effort in a 3-2 victory over Wentworth and followed that with 25 stops in the 2-1 triumph against WNE.
Hapward has been the backbone to 11 victories this season, the most wins for Suffolk since going 13-10-2 in 2015-16.
The weekly accolade is the third of Hapward's final collegiate campaign as he was named the conference's best netminder in a seven-day stretch Dec. 9 and Jan. 7, respectively. The three weekly accolades are the most by a Ram since Michael Levine garnered three in 2017-18.
In addition to Hapward's honors, Matt Pimental was tabbed CNE Player of the Week Feb. 10 and Nolan Leonard grabbed CNE Rookie of the Week Jan. 21 to bring the team's yearly total to five, the most weekly honors in a single season since 2015-16 when it earned seven from the ECAC Northeast.
Hapward and the Rams are back in action this weekend when they wrap up the regular season at Nichols Friday, Feb. 21 at 5:40 p.m.
