Hamline's freshman 6'8" defenseman Taylor Vichorek from Cloquet, signs a pro deal to play in Tampa Bays minor system. The Norfolk roster, where he was assigned, also has 2 guys who are 6'7". Geez....how many guys do you need in your system to play against Boogaard?

I had to laugh at this a little. Maybe a contender for KFAN's preposturous statement contest?

" With his size many wonder if Vichorek is being signed mainly to be an enforcer, but that is not necessarily the case."

"They plan to work him in both at forward and on defense and they say they think he has potential as a player and not just a tough guy,"

The problem is... he's not tough.

And he's not quick with the puck.

And he wasn't good at making quick decisions or passes.

Granted he was a freshman and I didn't see him in toooo many games, but I wasn't impressed with his play. He could stand to gain around 20-30 lbs to fill out his frame, and the skills just weren't really there. But with a build like that, I guess it's worth some teams taking a flyer on him. Weird to see him go to college and then forfeit the rest of his college eligibility just like that...

Best of luck to him, of course!
