Si certus es dubita
This is a great question.
The instant I started thinking I remembered mine -- the Winter War: the Russian invasion of Finland in WW2. I remember researching a paper on this in fifth or sixth grade and being consumed by it, and by the photos of the Finns conducting snowy asymmetric warfare. For what felt like a year (so, let's say 2 weeks) read everything I could find on the subject.
