Great Lakes Invitational goes back INSIDE

Re: Great Lakes Invitational goes back INSIDE

Looking forward to attending my second GLI. Hopefully the weekend games and the addition of Western add to the attendance.

Who would have thought that the only team above .500 would be Western? I would have said not a chance, there should be at least 3 teams above .500.

Re: Great Lakes Invitational goes back INSIDE

JLA had to fit it in on a Sat-Sun this year because of the switch from outdoors, and the arena was booked for Jeff Dunham IIRC.

Nonetheless, WMU will be the favorite as the surrogate for the team that originally was invited, SCSU. Ironically, they would be the only above .500 team in the tourney also if they were not snubbed. Good for WMU fans, I hope you fill it up, b/c casual MSU and Michigan fans will probably opt out this year. M Tech fans usually come in good numbers, quite a few in the Detroit area.

There's a chance I'd be able to go to the championship game, maybe see the last period or two of the consolation, but I'll probably only pull the trigger if State makes the title. MSU-UM would be fun for the rivalry aspect, but MSU-MTU would be a nice one too. Looks like a Spartan-Huskie title game hasn't happened since 2000.

If WMU shows up at Comerica on day 1, I'll buy for the championship.

If Hildebrand is in net they've got a shot. All the blowouts so far have come with Yanakeff at goaltender. Hildebrand gives the team a shot, they just don't have the offense right now.

seems like the deblouw-berry-Darnell kids are the only thing producing. And they're all comley's recruits (his last hurrah). Reimer & Wolfe miss dchelios big time and Anastos needs to figure out how to get those two going. Love to see him put hoomaian up there I can see him breaking big one of these days.

Tech will need to shakeup the lines without Blake P.
Play D. Johnstone a ton and pair Gordic with J. Johnstone to add scoring to the third line.

This is the year the drought ends.

That is a big hit losing him. Hey I winced a bit when you mentioned the first Johnstone c'est la vie. State may have the best goaltender in the GLI and we couldn't say that since maybe 2008. I dare say however that this is Western's title to lose.

I was gonna add "and we probably could have had a literal brick wall in net that year and still would h ave lost" but then remembered that we beat NoDak in that first game.

Re: Great Lakes Invitational goes back INSIDE

SCSU fans are torqued you rescinded our invitation. Guess we will have to take it out on NMU in a few weeks.

Woah, hey now! That's not our fault. You can go talk to Tech and UM about that. We don't host, we just get invited every year because we don't mess up the place when we come over.

Re: Great Lakes Invitational goes back INSIDE

Where are the predictions?

Semis:
MTU-3 UM-2
MSU-17 WMU-1

Finals:
WMU-5 UM-2
MSU-21 MTU-2

For real though I have no idea, anyone could win it this year. I guess that could be said every year because it's only a two game tournament, but if anything this year all four teams have a chance. I haven't seen Tech at all but they're a game back of State and two games back of UM while having played the top half of the WCHA, so on paper they look even. WMU is obviously the best team but like owslachief said, they have to face the best goalie in the tournament in the semis. Hildebrand has only given up more than two goals once this year. If the offense can wake up and somehow put up three, maybe even just two goals, I see State winning. Whoever wins this, I see it being low scoring.
In game 2 Tech is going up one of the most inconsistent teams I have seen this year in UM. They destroy or get destroyed. The only prediction I can make is that it will be a blowout, but I can't say which way without knowing if the Michigan goalies will decide to pay attention or not.

Re: Great Lakes Invitational goes back INSIDE

Will Western's band be at the games? MEg believes that it will be the first time that all four teams bands will be at GLI. I'd guess that that would have happened at least one time before.

Re: Great Lakes Invitational goes back INSIDE

There might be four groups there, but there will only be one band worth hearing... tSGFitW... Huskies Pep Band.
The A&T Panthers might own the dome, but there is only one drumline that owns the Joe.
