Gopher Women's Hockey 2023-24

D2D

Minnesota Golden Gopher Hockey
Tommies, Gophers to square off in men's and women's hockey doubleheader

"St. Thomas and the Gophers will play a men's and women's hockey doubleheader on Oct. 13 at Xcel Energy Center, the St. Thomas athletic department announced Thursday."

Something new to start of the season this fall! Could be the beginning of an intense rivalry between these two programs. With the men's teams on the agenda, it should draw a big crowd, maybe more in future years as it hopefully becomes a tradition.

Thanks! What other options did you consider for the thread title before deciding to go with this simple, factual version? "Gopher Women's Hockey 2023-24: doesn't matter where the FF is, we're not planning to go" or something more optimistic, like, "Gopher Women's Hockey 2023-24: hoping for a BC rematch at the Whitt"?

Anyway, no surprise opponents on the conference schedule, and to date, it doesn't look like any teams have pulled a Whioux. One home-and-home series with SCSU spans a day, the other, seven weeks.

If we add a goalie, then our roster is fine against most opponents. There is potential firepower with Murphy, Hemp, Huber, Bouveng, and E. Lindsay. I think the blue line will be better than we're expecting. The problem is that there are a couple of teams in the country with rosters better than ours on paper, and we'll have to go through them.

Gopher Women's Hockey 2023-24: Transfers? We don't need no stinking transfers.

None of those other couple of teams have number 5 on their roster...So there is that.

Gophers add a graduate goalie from Saint Lawrence, originally from Mandan but played senior year of high school at Maple Grove, another Minnesota native but to this point UMD defender, and a Princeton defender who is apparently mostly German but must have a Swedish father as she plays internationally for Sweden and therefore may have been influenced to UofMinn by the Gophers already having a Swedish player on the roster.

Looking a little further at the d-corp for next year...

2 Taylor Stewart 5'10"
5 Madeline Wethington 5'10"
6 Josie Hemp 5'9"
7 Nellie Laitinen 5'7"
10 Emily Zumwinkle 5'9"
14 Maggie Nicholson 5'9"
16 Allie Franco 5'7"
22 Elly Klepinger 5'9"
27 Solveig Neunzert 5'9"

(17 Josey Dunne 5'10" is listed as a F but has played D as well)

That is a large group both by the number of players and their height.

2012-13
2 Lee Stecklein Fr 5-11
5 Rachel Ramsey So 6-0
7 Mira Jalosuo Sr 6-0
13 Milica McMillen Fr 5-10
19 Megan Bozek Sr 5-9
27 Baylee Gillanders Jr 5-11

(I'm surprised to be the one posting this, but...)

Is she leaving for the Whitecaps gig? I notice her longtime assistant Bobrowski hasn't landed anywhere publicly either since leaving Elmira last month...

Wow, wonder how long she stays at the high school level. Gotta imagine she's gonna win pretty big pretty quickly.

I think that is where she wants to be, why leave the Associate H/C at the 2nd best women's college hockey spot? She could have probably applied for the Hawvawd job if she was looking to be movin' on up.

No...As mentioned above, she and Bobrowski are going to be co-head coaches of girls hockey at Hill Murray High School. There is a lot of young talent (including one of Krissy Pohl's daughters) on the Hill Murray team
