goalie fight after OT & before SO

GB Puck Fan

It's A Great Day For Hockey
In last Sunday's USHL game between the Green Bay Gamblers and the Chicago Steel, the goalies got into a fight: after the overtime and before the shootout.

Both were ejected and the backups came in for the shootout.

Here's a story from a local TV station with video of the fight and sound from GB's coach and goalie:

And Yahoo! Canada sports has picked it up. I think the last paragraph is the best - it has a link to the bat killing incident from earlier in the year in GB.

Re: goalie fight after OT & before SO

My favorite part is that this was the 3rd fight between these two in the last two years.

The guy getting 5 games is a WMU recruit, I believe. I hope this other goalie is coming to the CCHA as well. :D

The Pisellini kid played about 1/4th of a season at Quinnipiac before going back to juniors.

I think mine was the fact that the backup goalie...for the Steel I think...was already stretching before the end of the fight.

Re: goalie fight after OT & before SO

I hope they both go to Western. :D

from a pure goaltending pov, Summerhays is the much better goalie - he had a 20-game win streak this year and leads the league in GAA.

that said Pisellini is ok. he yaps waaaaaay to much. most games he has good positioning, but there are games when he's chasing the puck and gives up monster rebounds.

The Maine fans are eyeing Summerhays, as apparently he's on record as saying he'd like to come east and play. That coupled with our troubles with Darling and Whitehead stating publicly their in the hunt for a goalie.

I can't find the link, but the quote posted in the Maine recruit thread was:

While he hasn't signed with a college team yet, he's receiving more and more interest from Division 1 programs.

"I kind of want to play out east: Maine, New Hampshire, or Boston," said Summerhays. "So, if any of those schools are interested that would be great."

Yes, Pisellini is a WMU recruit. Also this is their third fight of the season.

Also, my blog has video of the fight.

Pisellini left QU last season at the holiday break due to his fathers illness. The "official" story was that he wanted to be closer to home and his dad and I've never heard any update on his condition.

For the time he was with us, he was a stud between the pipes. I would have loved to have seen him stay and develop.

Yes, Pisellini is a WMU recruit.
Due to redshirting, he was eligible for the start of the 2nd semester this year. It looks like he decided to spend another full season in juniors (so he could hone his pugilistic skills apparently) before returning to D1 (if I recall correctly he was a true freshman at QU).

Yes, and it was a smart move. No sense sitting behind Gill at WMU for a semester when he can be playing in the USHL. Plus if he had played this winter for WMU this entire season would count against his eligibility, where if he waits for next fall he still has 3 full seasons left.
