Fire Tim Army

BUObserver

Father of PC91
Enough is enough. I can't believe how low he has taken Providence College hockey. The total lack of offense and closing in on 100 losses in 5 years while showing no signs at all of improvement, it's just time to go. If my job performance was as poor as Army's I'd be standing in a soup line, the wonderful AD at PC gives him not a 1 or 2 yr extension, oh no he gets 5 YEARS.....

The rink is empty the team is terrible and nobody seems to care.

Re: Fire Tim Army

PC has, I believe, 9 league wins in their last 50 conference games. The team's offense is among the worst in Division 1. Army is going to hit 100 league losses either this year or next, and it goes without saying he has been a total, unmitigated disaster as a head coach on the collegiate level. Back to back 20 loss, dead-last place finishes and not even qualifying for your own conference's playoffs speaks for itself. After a promising start to his first season -- which ended with a now-annual end-of-season collapse -- it's been a downward spiral for the Friars into the Hockey East basement.

The few excuse-makers have trotted out everything for the last 5 seasons -- blaming Pooley and his players first. Then several seasons of saying it was all Tyler Sims' fault. Now it's the institution's failure to back the program, as well as the fanbase (all 7 of us) on this board for making recruiting difficult by discussing how poor Army's record is.

Even if PC needs to do more to support the program -- something we can all agree on -- there seems to be no good reason to retain him as head coach.

To continue giving a vote of confidence to someone who has done nothing but make this program worse since he got here is tantamount to telling everyone that PC no longer cares about its hockey team. Which, given his contract, is very likely to be the case. :(

I agree.. Fire Tim Army, he simply isn't the right guy for the job.
The record speaks for itself.

Re: Fire Tim Army

Isn't it great when coaches who are hailed as saviors after one season just fail phenomenally for the next 5? (Cough cough, Charlie Weis). I just hope Brendan Whittet won't turn out like Army did, because Brown would never get rid of him- he's an alum and he's cheap.

Re: Fire Tim Army

I take great exception to a BU fan starting a thread like this. After all the success BU has had, you think BU Observer would just mind his own dang business. This is a team that needs something positive to happen. Something like a new coach. Hey BU fan go back to Boston.

There....

Re: Fire Tim Army

Hey, look at the bright side. Providence College is not quite as bad as Michigan Tech.

Michigan Tech winning pct .315 with coach Jamie Russell - 66-163-33, 7th season

Providence College winning pct .388 with Tim Army - 58-97-19, 5th season

You just wait 'til next decade.

:(

You must wait till next year. There are going to be some great improvements. As you mention all 7 of us, Microsoft has developed Windows 7, and while the school can't afford it, someone has donated to Tim a new laptop with Windows 7. This will allow him to make quicker decisions on the bench while he is on his laptop. Just you wait and see. :D :D :D

Re: Fire Tim Army

Season ticket holder here, my last game, or I should say last period tonight as a season ticket holder. 5-0 Merrimack after the 1st period. This thread needs to stay on the first page until Army gets his butt off campus.

I left after the 1st period also. Noticed no Laptop on the bench tonight. AS of now this was my last game as a seaon ticket hols too!

Re: Fire Tim Army

Why didn't Simpson get to play on Senior night? Is he injured?

Great question. I thought for sure he would play tonight since Providence had nothing to play for. He was dress tonight and was on the bench. In fact Army has been dressing 3 goalies for about a month. He should of played, give the kid the chance to play in his last game as a Senior. I thought it was classless that Army didn't start him, unless he was injured. If he was indeed injured, he shouldn't be dressed. He didn't look injured in warm ups.

Re: Fire Tim Army

I thought it was a a hole move myself. Seriously, tonight's game had no effect on anything. Let the kid play! I see a program in shambles!

Re: Fire Tim Army

This coach, and yes, this team should be ashamed. Allowing Merrimack 5 FIRST PERIOD GOALS on "Senior Night"? Are you kidding me?

How about showing up? Is that too much to ask? Because if Merrimack really IS that much better to kick your *** with 5 first period goals, maybe you shouldn't be playing in Division 1 anymore. Sorry to be blunt, but it's time for someone down there to WAKE UP and look at the reality of what this program has become.

To those of you still with season tickets who aren't going back -- join the club of former season ticket holders in holding out until PC hockey makes a firm commitment to supporting this program and starts by axing a coach whose time has come.

It's over, guys. Whether it's now or next year or the year after, he's finished here. The big question now is whether or not the program is...

I wouldn't discount giving up 5 goals to Merrimack as the problem (or a disgrace)...this is a team that has scored 6 on BU and Army (haha gotta love the double meaning there), and put up 5 against BU and Wisconsin (then #3 in the country). I think you discredit Merrimack's offense a bit which has seen numbers near the top of Hockey East.

I was at the game tonight, I go to Merrimack but my sister is a frosh at PC so I respect the school and the team just as I respect any Hockey East team. I hope PC can find the answer in the years to come, whether it be recruiting, school support, or a new coach. I know how frustrating being in the basement can be...we haven't been to the HE playoffs since 03-04.

Good luck to you moving forward...but hey, Keno Davis is starting to do some things right with the bball team...a lot of young talent, I expect them to do great things in the Big East in the years to come!

5 goals in the first 20 minutes? That is a disgrace. If the game was 5-0 final, that's one thing -- but giving up 5 goals in the 1st period to MC, in your own building, on senior night, is pathetic.

Hopefully, and you're right, at least the PC hoops team shows up and makes a game of it. This hockey team has just collapsed, utterly...4-0 loss at UML last week. 5-0 loss to MC tonight, at home, on senior night. Honestly the seniors must be happy they're leaving, if it's anything like last year there will be more fireworks at the hockey banquet than on the ice.
