Ferris State Bulldogs - New Head Coach

Put a jumbotron in Ewigleben!
Who should Ferris hire as the next coach? With Bob Daniels stepping down after more than three decades at the helm and all the changes to the college athletics landscape, Ferris' hire will clearly indicate how serious they are competing at the D1 level. In my opinion, there is no reason FSU can't compete for a CCHA Championship year in and year out and get a fight for a tournament bid every 2-3 years. To me, this would be a wildly successful program by realistic standards.

What direction will Ferris go? Daniels has a pretty solid coaching tree with Blashill and Lalonde having NHL head coach experience. Do they hire from the current staff? What about a Brad Berry - proven success at the D1 level and looking for a new challenge. Ferris should have a niche recruiting base in SE Michigan - the kids that get overlooked by the bigger programs.

The hire will say a lot about the university's commitment to the program. I'd love to hear the Board's thoughts.

I appreciate these insights. I heard Lang and Riley discussed on the Game Notes podcast when they were discussing the RPI job. I remember Large's days in Big Rapids well, but he's been sub-.500 at Canisius. Riley has a sub-.500 record too. Krug is really intriguing - that would be an optimistic hire.

Eric Lang from American International?

Brett is a good choice. A proven winner wherever he has coached, starting here in Albany, NY at Albany Academy. Excellent in player development. Riley family tree doesn't hurt.

I'm optimistic. I'm sure it's hard to compete for players against the other lower peninsula teams - Riley's experience at LIU seems very applicable. Hopefully Brett can get Ferris to the top end of the CCHA year in and year out.
