Expansion Talk: 32 team NCAA Tournament

Who doesn't love college hockey right? I would love to see more NCAA Tournament games. Today is one of the best days of the year. Here is a thought- with the talk of expansion in the basketball tournament to 96 at one time, it made me wonder why? It's fine the way it is. The real tournament that needs more teams is the hockey tournament.

Format- 32 teams, single elimination
Automatic bids- Regular season champions, conference tournament champions
Regional First & Semifinals hosted by 1 and 2 seeds
Regional Finals at a neutral site
Frozen Four and NCG are the same format as before.

Here is a mock up of what this years 32 team tournament would look like if it were real- Sorry about the image being cut off on the right side.

No. Stop. Never will happen until College Hockey magically creates about another 100 teams.

32 teams? Hell, 16 might be too many. The NCAA will not add teams until there are at least another dozen Division I programs.

If the NCAA didn't have limits, it still wouldn't fly. I mean, under this format Canisius, Union and Niagara would all make the tournament. That would make a mockery of the tourney.

Nice touch with Minnesota's first round match up!

96 hoops teams getting in would still be a lower percentage of overall basketball playing teams than 16 in hockey.

If the NCAA made a change, there is a greater chance it would move the tournament to 12 teams rather than grow it as hockey is currently over the 25% of overall teams guideline.

32 would just be ridiculous. That would be like the basketball team having a 175 team tournament.

With 32 teams, over half the teams would make the tourney.

If 32, why not have all the teams play? Then nobody will feel left out.

Yeah, but he made an image for his whole plan. And took the time to match Minnesota up with Holy Cross in the first round. *ducks flying brick*

This is an awful idea. "Let's water down the playoffs like the NHL and NBA!"

Why do we need a 32-team tourney? We've got a 55-team tourney this year and a 57-team tourney next year. Why contract?

Here's a novel idea, send the bottom seed from each bracket (looks like Canisius, Ohio State, Holy Cross and UNO) and the first 4 teams left out of the field (say UConn, Air Force, Merrimack and Mercyhurst) to Dayton for a play-in round on Tuesday.

If anything they should go back to 12 teams and 2 sites.
