ESPN Will Broadcast 2021 Women's Frozen Four

Why bury it in ESPN U? That is an upper tier cable channel. If they seriously want to give women's hockey some love, stick it on regular ESPN. It's 3 games, what are they going to bump? The International Cherry Spitting Championship or stop 5 of the World Axe Throwing Tour?

Happy it’s going to be on tv. Wonder why big ten network dumped it. Espnu and big ten network are probably on same cable tier right? Lots of great hockey coming up on tv. Best time of year for women's hockey fans.

As with all things with the NCAA and its member institutions, it likely came down to $$$. This has no doubt been a challenging year for conferences economically, so they are getting very conservative with their financial decisions. Buy the TV rights to the women's hockey championship? Hey! I just found a place where we can save $50!

Overall, I think that it's a good thing. Young girls in California or Texas are more likely to find themselves in front of a television tuned to ESPNU than BTN. Outreach is huge. Five years ago, it wasn't on any live TV, so I'll take this as a positive.

EDIT: I see that the first semi is on ESPN3. Sigh. That isn't such a positive.

I appreciate your perspective, ARM. It makes sense that ESPNU has more reach than Big Ten so that’s definitely a good thing. I agree today’s tv environment compared to 5 years ago shows drastic improvement.
