DU @ OSU 10/15 and 10/16 First Roadie of the Year

du78

Gunning For 10
DU travels to Columbus, OH this Thursday and Friday to face The Ohio State University. Columbus is a place close to all DU fans' hearts as it is where DU captured their 7th NCAA Championship in 2005. Thursday's game is on Pioneer Vision at 5:05 PM MT (7:05 PM ET) and will be played at The Value City Arena in the Schottenstein Center, the on-campus arena, while Friday night's game, also at 5:05 PM MT, will be at Nationwide Arena, where the Columbus Blue Jackets play. tOSU is 0-2-0 having dropped a pair of games last weekend to Quinnipiac at home. They also lost their exhibition game to Western Ontario two weeks ago. DU is 1-1-0 having split their home opening series with Vermont last weekend. Anthony Maiani, last season's leading scorer, will return to DU's line-up after serving a suspension for breaking team rules. Fridays' game will be videocast and audiocast for a fee on Pioneer Vision at www.denverpioneers.com. Saturday's game will be an audiocast only.

DU is ranked #3 in the INCH Power Rankings.

If OSU plays the way they did against Quinnipiac the first period of the two games will be interesting and the last two periods of each game will be a poor excuse for hockey on OSU's part.

I'll be there for both games regardless of the way they play since I don't seem to learn.:)

Re: DU @ OSU 10/15 and 10/16 First Roadie of the Year

Hoping our young defense will have learned some lessons from the Vermont games and Maiani will try to make amends for his absence last weekend.

Thursday and Friday 5:00 pm Mountain/4:00pm Pacific. I'll have to make my wine run early.:D

Interesting that Maiani's older brother Domenic left (or was dismissed) from OSU before his senior year for supposed disciplinary reasons. Must run in the family.

Any idea as to why he was suspended for two games?

No, DU doesn't disclose team discipline issues. Gwoz runs a pretty tight ship and things like missing classes or mandatory study halls, etc. costs you games. It seems like every year someone is suspended just as the season starts. I don't think any of the DU fans on this board know nor would speculate as to what Maiani did.

Re: DU @ OSU 10/15 and 10/16 First Roadie of the Year

DU leaves tomorrow to travel to Columbus for this rare Thursday/Friday series.

The DU Game Notes provide all of the essentials for this series in a city which DU has had great success in. Anthony Maiani returns this weekend, however, Nate Dewhurst has the flu and will not accompany the team.

Ohio State played a penalty filled series with Quinnipiac last weekend, 18/19 respectively.
DU had 4 penalties last weekend.

Ohio State PP-1 of 13 PK-11 of 12
DU PP-2 of 8 PK-2 of 3

What can we expect this weekend? Do we know who will ref these games?

As if Rakhshani and Ruegsegger didn't make the Pios deep enough at forward already.

Re: DU @ OSU 10/15 and 10/16 First Roadie of the Year

If tOSU plays disciplined hockey, it should be an entertaining weekend win or lose. If they play as they did in the 2nd and 3rd periods of both games against QU, it could be really ugly... Hope springs eternal for the type of preformance they (OSU) had in Denver last year. That would make for a nice early turnaround.

Re: DU @ OSU 10/15 and 10/16 First Roadie of the Year

I am sure Gwoz has reminded the players about last year's series at DU. :D

One day until gameday.

Re: DU @ OSU 10/15 and 10/16 First Roadie of the Year

Seems odd to have a game on Thursday, but I'm not complaining.
Just have to remember it's at 4:00 pm here.

Re: DU @ OSU 10/15 and 10/16 First Roadie of the Year

It is GAMEDAY

GO DU!!!!!

DU took 8 defensemen on the trip including Ryder and Nutini. Looks like Gwoz will probably dress 7 d-men and 11 forwards each night.

I'm not so sure about that. He might go Ryder/Phillips tonight & Nutini/Wrenn on Fri.
