I just bought a guitar. Squier...Pretty basic learners guitar. Nothing fancy. Love it so far. I also bought Rocksmith, which you plug your guitar into the PS3 (or Xbox 360) and it teaches you how to play guitar. I plan on recording myself every day for 6 months and make a video of my progress.

Yes, I play in several. Music is awesome, playing it is even awesomer.

In fact, this weekend I'm playing with an Alice In Chains tribute band in Foxboro.

Yuck. I am more into the funk/jazz/brass band thing. I also play in community concert bands/orchestras and wind ensembles.

Speaking as a sax player, but it applies to you too: If the band gets to dance and/or clap and/or sing, that's a good gig.

I play sax as well. At a show in college (I think) we were doing some dancey tune and some girl was grinding all over my leg as I played. It was not easy to play properly, but holy crap was that cool.
