DIII Posters' Player of the Year/All-Posters' Teams 2012-13

Alright, I did this 3 years ago, and I decided I wanted to resurrect the idea.

The idea is, we work together to name a single Player of the Year for all of NCAA DIII Men's Ice Hockey as voted on by posters of the USCHO.com fan forum. In addition, we also name our equivalent to the All-American teams, effectively, but with 1 All-Posters' National Team, and 2 DIII Posters' Regional Teams (which would be essentially 2 separate 2nd-team All-Americans, one for each region)

I'd like to do this similarly to the way we did it last time, so to start things off, we need to compile a pool of players to vote for. Last time, we had been running a weekly poll for player of the week that we used to get us started off, but we don't have that now, so we need to rely exclusively on poster nominations to get the list together. last time, our pool of players included 25 forwards (15E, 10W), 12 Defense (6E, 6W), and 13 Goalies (10E, 3W). Those numbers seemed to work, but I certainly don't think we can work with any less!

This will be followed by 2 separate posts:

-The first will outline the nomination process by which we will determine the pool of eligible players

-The second will describe the voting process through which we will select the POTY and the All-Posters' Teams once the pool is determined.

Re: DIII Posters' Player of the Year/All-Posters' Teams 2012-13

So let's get some players nominated! Listing a player in this thread will be considered a nomination to make him eligible for votes for both the National/Regional teams.

When nomination players, please list the following information (at least as it is at the time that you post).:
Skaters:
Name, Year, Team, Position, GP, G-A-Pts, Statistical Category leads.
Goalies: Name, Year, Team, W-L record, Saves, Save%, GAA, Minutes Played, Statistical Categories Led

So, for example, if I were nominating Nichols' Louie Educate (who is now a Utica Player) last season, I'd have listed it as such:
Louie Educate
Freshman
Nichols
Forward
27GP
27-15-42
Goals Per Game leader
Game-Winning Goals co-leader
Rookie Points per game leader

All of this information will be updated and made readily available via google docs for voters to view when the pool is finalized and voting begins.

As with last time, since we as a group of posters represent only a handful of teams, we needed to make some artificial limits to ensure a variety of players. As such, there is one limitation to the nomination process
-only 3 forwards, 2 defensemen, and 1 goaltender per team will be allowed in the pool of eligible players.

-Once that quota is reached, additional nominations for that team will have to select which of the preceding nominations should be withdrawn, and these additional nominations will require both a 2nd and a 3rd poster to concur with that choice

-A poster may contest the replacement, and posts in support of the replacement must outnumber the posts contesting that nomination by 2.
We will leave nominations open until the conclusion of conference playoffs on Sunday, 3 March. NOMINATIONS OPEN NOW!

Re: DIII Posters' Player of the Year/All-Posters' Teams 2012-13

Once the pool has been determined, it then becomes time to vote. Voting will open the moment I post the pool on the thread, and will continue until Wednesday, March 20th at 5pm ET (the Wednesday after the NCAA DIII Men's Ice Hockey Championships in Lake Placid).

Votes will be submitted via email to mailto:d3.poty@gmail.com.

Each vote submission shall follow this format:
Code:
Voter's USCHO Username:

All-Posters' Team - Top 3 Forwards, 2 Dmen, and 1 Goalie in all DIII
Regional Team - Top 3 Forwards, 2 Dmen, and 1 Goalie in each region not named to the National Team.

*Each 5-man submission for Player of the Year must include players from both regions and a player from at least 3 different teams.

*Each National Team Vote must include at least 1 player from each region, and at least 1 player from 3 different teams.

Calculation of Results

Player of the Year:
Each First place vote gets 5pts, Second place gets 4pts, etc. The Player with the highest total score will be the DIII Posters' Player of the Year.

All-Posters' Teams:
Each vote for a player on the National Team will be worth 2pts, each vote to the Regional team will be worth 1 pt. The 3 Forwards, 2 Defensemen, and 1 Goalie with the highest totals will become the All-Posters' DIII Team. With these players removed from consideration, the 3 forwards, 2 Defensemen, and 1 goalie with the highest totals in each region will be names to their respective Regional Teams.

And So Again, Nominations are now open and will continue to be open until the conclusion of Conference games on Sunday, 3 March 2013. Nominating should be done in this thread, NOT via e-mail.

Let's do this!

Re: DIII Posters' Player of the Year/All-Posters' Teams 2012-13

Wait til after the play downs and before the NCAA's:)

Last time we did that, used the week leading to the QFs for nominations and the week leading up to Lake Placid for voting, but I ended up having to extend voting because people got wrapped up in playoffs and forgot, and even then I only received a small number of votes. My idea was, let's extend it so you have the whole 2 weeks of conference tournaments for nominations, and the 2 weeks of the NCAAs (and a few days after, just to be safe) to vote.

Re: DIII Posters' Player of the Year/All-Posters' Teams 2012-13

Instead of nominating (obvious) players, why not just compile the 1st and 2nd all-conference teams from each conference as the nomination pool?
IMO, if you aren't recognized as all-conference, no reason to be considered for POY, a National, or Regional team.

I suppose that works :P

Anybody object to this idea?
