Casey Jones coming in as associate HC this year and transitioning to HC next year is probably about the best way for Mike to exit. It's "shocking but not surprising," with Mike having had some pretty serious medical events.

The last time Cornell transitioned from an iconic coach we made a hash of it and it set the program back several rungs on the ladder. This time I think we have made a very good decision, and with Casey being a 5-7 year HC he has time to both move the program safely past the loss of Schafer but does not have the pressure to try to equal his achievements career-wise, which is sensible. Also Casey is Cornell in his bones, and this is a wonderful homecoming for him and us.

Casey came to Clarkson as HC in 2011.

Oh, we are all well aware. I meant 5-7 years at Cornell. Unless he pulls a Ceglarski.

Hehehe. Typical, double down and never admit you are wrong. Maybe 5-7 years at Cornell but not as HC.

What did you mean about the Ceglarksi comment? That was a bit unclear.

Kepler is suggesting Casey will be HC of Cornell for 5-7 years following Schafer's retirement.
