Cornell Big Red @ Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs

I love the UMD sweaters. We're doing a bit better now after a rough start. Ironically the goal was just a screen, but then Shane stoned them later so it's a wash.

Just realized I am also a 40-year Cornell fan. Not counting the lost season, this is my 41st year as a Cornell fan.

Nice first Cornell pp, we beat their goalie clean but the deflection was just high, then a free puck in the high slot but Berard was a millisecond slow.

So, 1-zip after 1. Bulldogs had the positional advantage by a fair amount. Cornell being beaten to pucks which is just weird to see.

The Duluth building is big but dead, the crowd has zero energy or presence and is pummeled every stoppage with godawful noise like a baseball stadium. The UMD cheerleader are, um, midwestern. Broad of beam and lily white. Come to think of it, so's the crowd. You get the impression this is what these guys do between red hat rallies.

The Bulldogs themselves are a splendid team. They are missing on a lot of passes but you can see they just need confidence and they'll gel. Lots of talent, dangerous. An old school WCHA team. The throw the body more than I am used to from a western squad. They don't have that tape to tape finesse we saw from their national contender teams, but they are obviously way better than a 19.

I love coming into these barns (even if this one seems pretty bland and beaten down by the idiocy of artificial noise). I will try to make the NoDak and UMD series at Lynah.

I have Lynah season tickets and am planning already to go to St. Lawrence/Clarkson in the North Country, so my Score Update contributions this season will be limited (I don't/can't do anything on my phone).
