You are indeed one of those with guts - willing to risk lowering your win percentage on RB's running total! During the season it seems ( and i could be mistaken) that some only try to start the thread if they have a reasonable chance to gain a win. I would have started this earlier today but I think the accepted rule is that if you are not on a winning streak, you are supposed to refrain and last week I started the thread for the Yale game which we count as a tie (we got a point for getting to the stupid shootout). As an old timer i still am not enthused with OT unless it is a full 5 on 5 Sudden death like the Stanley Cup games let alone the ridiculous idea of a shootout where a team sport result is decided by a shootout. perhaps next we shall see the baseball World Series decided by a Home Run Derby?

I’m totally with you, Doc. As a long time season ticket holder, I remember the 10-minute 5 on 5 OT period, and if nobody scored the game was a tie. The 3 on 3 OT play leads a lot to very slow play as the team with the puck tends to be very tentative not to give the puck away. I would prefer a 4 on 4 which would improve the pace of play and play more like regulation time. And of course, I’m with you 100% in regards to the shootout. What is wrong with a tie??

I agree Doc, but today it is all about the younger generations. And they have the attention span of a flea. The game has to end, and ties are unacceptable. So we get a shootout.
I guess that we are just going to have to deal with it.

With my record over the last couple of years, what little chance of winning today would have disappeared if I started the thread.

I agree with you completely about rule changes, but IMO starting with a runner at second base in extra innings is worse than the hockey OT changes.

RB- did I get a point for the Yale thread? I know i got the win for Brown but was not sure how you handle it when we get all the way to a shootout and then lose since the team gets a point for an overtime loss. It does not come up often but is any point awarded for an OT loss or a shootout loss in the stats you post for each thread?

BTE- I am hoping our boys can just keep this one tonight close for the first 2 periods. Cornell is very good this year but any team can get a bit frustrated when a lower ranked team like us makes them look mortal long enough.

That change in baseball alone has been enough to stop me from watching. Never minded extra inning games going on forever (sat through 23 innings once) as it merely meant a few extra beers!

I counted it at a loss as that is what it used to be.

OK- did not know how these were handled. If we win in a shootout, i suppose it is counted as a win even though that game used to be counted as a tie after OT in the past. But if we lose in a shootout, then we count it as a loss even though that game used to be counted as a tie after OT in the past. The team gets 2 points for a shootout victory an 1 point for a shootout loss. Just so we are consistent.

For the fifth weekend in a row the men's and women's teams face the same opponents...this looks like the toughest of those weekends. The men face #2 and #3 in the ECAC, the women face #1 and #4.

Correct. That is for league games. I ignore shootouts for nonleague games (like the exhibition game which I started) and count it as a tie. The whole thing is admittedly quite stupid. Maybe we should change it next year. Let's discuss in the off season.

Girls were out played but not out shot in the first period. Amazing Rampado saves kept it scoreless. Note we are playing without arguably our best defensive player as #89 is playing internationally this weekend and will not be available for either game.

Glad you clarified. I hate the new rules in all the sports. Thankfully when they get to the Stanley Cup the game returns to it's roots.

Engineers missing one of their other top defenders as well, Erbanova...injury.
