Colgate 21-22

When Oldtimer asks Oldtimer receives. Here is the new thread. Bringing back all the scoring from last year and adding more. Should be one of the top teams.

Thanks Rightnut. Can't wait to see Brick, Chan and Greig on O and Golnitz, Eichfeld and Mettler on D with Murphy in the cage. Appears to be a lot of talent here, hopefully they can quickly blend with our great core. Go 'Gate.

Not sure how often Murphy will be in the cage...there is a reason why Dobchuck transferred. Osbourne had a great season and will likely get every start. Hope Murphy is ok with playing backup for a few years. Nice “problem” for Fargo to have though!

I am excited to see how Greig does for 'Gate. I hope she does really well. It's hard to crack the line-up @ UW for some talented players and if as many F's are coming back due to covid as are thought to be, she would be locked out again.

It will be interesting to see. Gate is pretty loaded in the top 6 with some top freshman coming in as well.

Agree with Sieve1 on goal tending but it is a nice problem for Fargo. Bigger problem is who will be on the 4th line, could be all seniors and grad students. Greig should be comfortable having DS to play with again after their POE experience. Early games will be very interesting until lines are set but we have to get the chemistry right fast with the Gophers up first...

BTW where did Dobchuck go? Her leaving must be why they brought in Governors' goalie late...

Dobchuck has transferred to St Thomas. You are correct- the Governors goalie was brought in late as the 3rd goalie. If Osborne takes her extra year of eligibility Colgate will essentially have 3 2021 goalies. Could be an issue a few years down the road when they graduate all 3 goalies the same year...

COVID transfers and extra years of eligibility are going to roil college hockey for a number of years...hopefully by 2021 Osborne will be able to make a living as a pro prior to trying out for the '26 Winter Olympics

So is the team back on campus after the US and Canadian festivals? Surprised not to see Kalty on Czech women's world team along with Nemo.

Have not seen any preseason poll on USCHO…nothing on gocolgateraiders.com…no season preview…I don’t get it. Where’s the advertising for the tourney champions?

Ecstatic for this team. So glad the program has had success and is maintaining it, all while competing against the best in the nation that are 10x its size.

Go ‘Gate

#5 on USCHO and 6 on USA Today. This is the year Fargo has been working towards for the last 4 years. Gotta make a run.

Fingers crossed for the incoming group. I've been tracking them for a few years now and on paper/video they look like they can step right in and contribute from the first puck drop. If so this team is going to have some real offensive depth and will be dangerous top to bottom. Per usual not many stay-at-home defensemen coming in but several appear to be of very high quality and also claim to equally enjoy the challenge of lockdown D. Another great goalie among the newcomers as well so plenty of depth at that spot too. Can't wait for Friday against RIT to get an early season glimpse into Greg's mind with the line combinations and D pairings and check out the chemistry. Always fun to compare lines and pairings in game one to crunch time later in the season...

ECAC Coaches Poll is in.

https://www.ecachockey.com/women/2021-22/News/20210921_-_Preseason_Poll

Surprised Colgate only received 7 of the 12 first place votes. I figured they would get 11 of the 12.

The ECAC is always tough, very hard to dominate any year. With little to go on regarding last year other than the 4 teams that played each other non-stop, the perennial powers, Cornell, Princeton and Harvard, who didn't still have to be given consideration. This is an Olympic year so Princeton is without Sarah Fillier who was centralized by Hockey Canada or they would be ranked right up there. I think she's taking the entire year off, but not sure. Also not sure if anyone else in the ECAC is impacted. Clarkson lost Guigerre who isn't centralized but is taking her last eligible year at UMD as a grad student. In Hockey East, Northeastern will lose Mueller to the Swiss as well and she may or may not be back. I'm not aware if NCAA rules preclude players from coming back or if that's up to them and their teams...

Always tough to be picked first; everyone wants a piece of you. As someone said, this team has been building for 4 years and the time is now. Did not know that Breanne Wilson-Bennett is an assistant at Union this year. Too bad there was not a spot at 'Gate for her. Wish her luck except 2 games/yr ;-)

I saw that announcement when I was looking for her on the Toronto 6 roster where she played great in the spring. I would bet if she wants to come home she will get the call whenever Greg's present coaching team starts to get head coaching opportunities...

Nice first game. Not particularly pleasant to go down 1 on a bad turnover but very nice to score the next 8 without looking back. Looked good across the board. Newbies played well but older players led the way with unrelenting forecheck which never gets old to watch. Brick, Golnitz, Chan and Greig fit right in and I can't wait until they feel comfortable. Nice to see 2nd and 3rd line upperclassmen score a few. All the stars had their moments too...fun!

Win the games you should, especially at home. RIT not the best gauge for success. After reading the ECAC write-up on here, the League has many weapons and it will be a battle to the finish. I would not say Colgate is a lock for anything, but we have a great shot. If Brick is any indication, it would be great to have freshmen contribute right off the bat.
