Colgate 2019-20

sshablak

It all starts with the goaltending.
I see more of the same for this year, almost named the thread that but figured it was inappropriate. Looks like we have a few decent kids coming in, I guess we need someone, maybe McMann to step up, nine goals doesn't cut it as the top scorer. Last year was abysmal, we need to find some scoring somewhere. We can only hope.

I'm very optimistic about our new recruiter Riley, can he be our savior, three recruits already in his first few months on the job, let's beat RIT Saturday night and get off on the right foot.

I'd also like to hear some info on our frosh, what can we expect ?

Re: Colgate 2019-20

Last year I looked periodically, first he was with Texas AHL, then down to ECHL and injured, then I kinda lost track, will look now.

Re: Colgate 2019-20

We're just 1 day away from the having Colgate hockey back in our lives!

I'm not going to sugarcoat it. Last season was an unmitigated disaster. In fact, we've had THREE "unmitigated disaster" seasons since we last made it to Lake Placid in March 2015 (with 2017-18 being the exception). The BIG question is (and has been since 2016 when Darcy Murphy, Mike Borkowski, and the Spink twins graduated): "where are the goals going to come from"?

I think last season we hit bottom. We were WELL UNDER 2 goals/game. There's nowhere to go but up. At the end of last season I thought this program was at a crossroads. In the offseason, the assistant coaching staff was overhauled. I have faith that new assistant coach Brett Riley will significantly impact our recruiting and get us the talented players we've longed for. We've had 3 new recruits since his hire, and even though they won't arrive until at least 2021, I suspect we'll see some of his recruits as early as next season, as we only have 5 players signed on for 2020 and we're losing 8 after this season. I'm going to pack my patience and hope that by the 2021-22 season, we're at or near the top of the ECAC standings.

In the meantime, I hope Brett Riley's knowledge has a positive impact on our current players and motivates them to succeed. I hope to make it to one of the games at UMass Lowell this month. Go 'Gate.

Re: Colgate 2019-20

RIP Robin Jaycox. Colgate hockey would not have made the strides it did in the late 1970's early 80's if not for him. Coach Slater's right hand man - a twin in significance to Admissions Director Dave Perham!

That is sad news.

Re: Colgate 2019-20

He was a ubiquitous presence around campus even when I was there, '68 - '72...and for those of us who suffered mightily during the '70-'71 season through Terry's first year ('77-'78) the next 25 years or so brought excitement and good success...hopefully we can restart again soon...yes, 55 goals in 36 games is jaw-dropping and we really need some of our frosh forwards to contribute immediately...one Young brother is coming this year, an even better one (so they say) next year...an upgrade in speed is needed as well...I do hear that our young assistants have not only notched a few recruiting wins so far, but some needed enthusiasm to the program...I think 15-21-3 is doable (TheCoat feels optimistic this morning)...and thanks Shabby for starting another thread...GO 'GATE

Re: Colgate 2019-20

the perfect end to a perfect weekend of Colgate sports...ONE goal scored, 2 PP goals against...glad to see we've addressed some of last year's problems...

Re: Colgate 2019-20

To be fair, our problems are so substantial they cannot be cured overnight.

I still choose optimism . . . long term.

Re: Colgate 2019-20

Saturday was a long, long day...good to see three frosh forwards contribute and look pretty good - a little extra speed, each one on our top three lines...would like to see more presence in the front of the net on PPs...SOGs a little misleading - again, the quality of these shots overall was not real high...but we'll see...gotta get some pucks in the net, period...so let's start on Thursday, please...

Re: Colgate 2019-20

Green coat, great point on the net front presence on the powerplay (there was none). I know we might not have the big center who’s game is in front of the net but you have to have someone start there and pop out to open spots.

Actually there was. They set up the structure they wanted (1-3-1), the puck just never made it inside and on net. With some more work, a couple of tweaks and shots getting through they should be in position for rebounds on the PP.
