Coaching changes 2011

Re: Coaching changes 2011

If you look at the job description, they are asking for a new coach, coming in trying to revive a rich tradition program, and are expected to also be an assistant coach with another sport and teach in the physical education department. Doesn't that seem like a lot on the plate for a new coach?

Re: Coaching changes 2011

I don't know anything about the Williams situation, but looking at the stats, is a 3-9 record going to remove the interim tag, and make her the head coach? The post says they prefer somoeone with a masters, does Lye an '09 grad, have that, or working towards the degree?

Re: Coaching changes 2011

Don't know her, or anyone at Williams. I am just throwing it out there. But, I would say you can't completely blame an interim coach for a 3-9 record. The program has not has coaching stability over the past few years. One would only think the same instability has to reflect in recruiting. In contrast, you might be correct. You would think they would need someone with a Master's to teach, even PE.

Re: Coaching changes 2011

Don't you think this might just be a formality post, since Lye has the interim tag?

I have spoken with people around the NESCAC who were extremely disappointed in the way Williams handled the situation following Marissa's departure, to the point of feeling it a disgrace and insult to the sport of womens hockey. This is not intended as a knock of Coach Lye, merely an expression of frustration with what is perceived as Williams abandoning the womens hockey program and allowing it to flounder for several seasons. I have heard there were candidates from other name programs willing to take the job and Williams (possibly reflecting transititon in the AD position) just did not get the deal done. Let us all hope the school makes a strong commitment to their womens hockey program and it is soon to return to the halcyon days. The NESCAC and the sport will be better for their efforts.

This is not an unusual arrangement for DIII schools.

Private colleges do not have to post a job opening if they do not want to, that is only for public schools, so if they wanted to name an interim coach the head coach, they would not have to post anything and simply make the announcement.

Many if not most private colleges do post ads for coaches as well as any other employment because it is one step in showing EEO compliance when legal issues come up.
