Clarkson at RPI 11/6/21

We have had a tendency to make the occasional bad decision in the defensive zone. Until last night, Marshall was able to cancel that out.
We need to make better decisions if we want to advance this season.
Lets go red!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sums it up perfectly. Virtually all of the SLU scores were directly related to a defensive lapse or inability to clear or just a poor decision. Marshall was not to blame on the goals and in fact made some terrific saves all game long or the score could have been a lot worse. Just a shame since we had times where we were just dominant in the offensive zone and missed some clear opportunities to score. These things happen and better now than later in the season so we have time to work on it and clean up our defensive zone play. All credit to SLU though as they just kept coming up ice in waves and kept the pressure on especially in the last 2 minutes of each period.

Football: RPI and SLU are tied at 7 with about 3 minutes to go in the 4th quarter.
Ithaca is leading Union 23-7 midway through the 4th quarter.

Ithaca 26, Union 7 final

Ithaca in the driver's seat for the league championship unless we come back and win today and then go to Union and win. We hold the tie break against Ithaca! Next week Union cannot win the league even if they beat us. Just have to keep fingers crossed that we can find a way to win this one today

Both teams scored on first possessions. Tied at 14.
Have to get ready for 4:30 Mass.

We have a final -RPI wins in 2OT 22-20 and next week plays at Union. A win there and we get an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Any other result and Ithaca gets the bid. Regardless this has been a very successful season as RPI is now 8-1 and 4-1 in the Liberty League games. All this in spite of playing all their home games without the support of a home crowd.

RPI women lost today to #8 Quinnipiac, 1-0. I wasnt able to watch but would love to get a description from anyone who did. Especially interested in hearing about the RPI parade to the penalty box over a 9 minute stretch at end of second through first half of the third: Larsen 2 mins for tripping at 18:54 of the second, then another 2 for elbowing at 4:51 of the third, and then nine seconds later Weiss is given 5 mins for hitting from behind plus a 10 min misconduct, and before that major is up, Wagner goes off at 7:45 for tripping. Four full minutes of 5 on 3 during that major. Somehow the Engineers survived all of that but couldn't get the equalizer.

Gooood news! Today's win makes next weekend all the more important! All season the Times Union and the Gazette have all but anointed Union the Monsters of the Midway. Somehow we're tied going into the Shoes Game.

We are going to learn a lot about this team tonight. Coming off the tough loss last night we will see how they come out tonight, and that will show us what kind of team we will have going forward. They don't have to win, but they have to be tough to beat.

Great that the ladies survived the penalties but the effects of those penalties linger for much of the rest of the game. Lines have to be juggled, time on ice is altered and so often the box score cannot represent all the effects of being short handed, and especially the time spent 5 on 3 defending. I did not see most of the game but from the description it would certainly be nice to know if the penalties were all deserved? if the penalties seemed to be called all one way? Only then can a team address what they are doing or not doing properly.

have to wonder how this affects the play of Union. After all, had they beaten Ithaca then next week would mean everything for them. now the game means only a lot to RPI. Union's loss to Ithaca means that only RPI or Ithaca can seal the deal and get the auto bid. i suppose that spoiling that bid for RPI is enough incentive for the Dutchmen but I cannot help but feel they truly wanted to be playing for the NCAA tournament bid. We shall see. BTW, was not thrilled with much of our play today. SLU is a mid level league team this year and we allowed them to push us around quite a bit and our offense seemed to sputter all day.
Just as an aside, SLU suited up a freshman today #78. I did not see him get into the game (i might have missed it) but on the sidelines he may have been the biggest player I have ever seen. Not sure of his height (I think perhaps 6'5" or taller but his weight is listed as 400 pounds (and he looks every pound of that if not more). Holy cow if it turns out he is still a growing boy for the next 3 years we face them!!!!!!!!

Will be here for the start of the Clarkson game - just not sure for how long. On call for two local hospital ER's and things have been rather busy this weekend. Still love to do this but the number of calls for injuries and especially car accidents are getting a bit out of hand. No wonder NJ has the highest auto insurance rates!

Thanks Jericho-little bit of a very deserved shake up. Hope it works. This team can show flashes of being extremely good but it seems that we also have some times where we just make all the wrong choices for a spell. Hopefully as the season moves along this can be corrected -there is considerable talent here and we are not an easy team to play against when we limit the errors.

Yes, indeed! I hope that the video is available somewhere, because those 9 or 10 minutes may say a lot about this team. Gritty combatants who almost pulled out a win against a top 10 team despite the refs...or an undisciplined team that blew an otherwise winnable game? Answer will probably not be that simple ;)
