CIS Women's Hockey Playoff Action This Weekend...If The Frozen Four Is Not Enough

Ah yes, the D2 championships. ;)

You are absolutely correct...that is exactly what it is.

But I have been surprised at times at the quality of the competition...last year's shocking 5-0 win by UWO over McGill had suspense and a great story line. Very entertaining game.

Montreal defeated SMU 3-2 in the second semi final and will face UBC tomorrow in the televised CIS Championship Game.

This may be D2 but it doesn't take a back seat to the D1 Frozen Four on a number of fronts...Played in a gorgeous arena...nationally televised semi finals and Championship Game...colour commentary by Cassie Campbell and first and second intermission analysis by Jennifer Botterill...and not to be outdone with respect to attendance, there were far more empty seats as a percentage of the total seating capacity than this year's well practised D1 Frozen Four could ever hope to achieve! And I'd wager a far fewer absolute head count too. Well done.

Women's Hockey...the best kept secret in University/College Sports...no matter where it's played.

On a brighter note one of the commercials during the broadcast featured Natalie Spooner...as I've said before, it's nice to see some of the players starting to financially cash in on all the sacrifice and dedication that they have invested over many years. All the power to them, as we used to say.

Hey, wait a minute...the last time I mentioned such a commercial it featured Tessa Bonhomme...what's going on here? Does OSU have a mandatory self marketing course for all it's female hockey players? If so, extremely well done.
