Personally I think this might be one of the worst moves yet. Not only is travel going to be ridiculous (Big Rapids to Mankato plus both Alaskan teams), but you took away an auto bid from one of the smaller schools. I think the CCHA should have done more meetings with both the Atlantic and the WCHA, to see what is the best option for everyone.

Sounds like the Atlantic schools that wanted to leave didn't want to be in a 6 team league and if LSSU and UAF both joined the WCHA that would have been a real possibility.

To be fair there is no way the CCHA could have predicted this back then, at the time it would have been a bad idea to let them in.

Assuming this goes through, 13 teams with Moorhead as the possible 14th. If I was Moorhead, I start looking at the travel and say no. This could be the death knell for UAH.

Don't like it, but what can one do. That pretty much locks up any expansion possibilities outside of the NCHC and the Big Ten. Also, it throws one more at large bid into the Tournament pool and takes it away from the smaller schools.

This is really a different approach. It is really a move that helps some of the CCHA team. Not sure its that big of a benefit to the handful of other WCHA teams.

Seriously people, if the extra auto-bid was all that important to the schools in general, College Hockey America would still exist. Get off the OMG autobid train, because it hasn't gone anywhere in a decade.

This is the worst decision they could have made. They should have stayed two separate conferences and kept the extra autobid. Then both leagues would have had room for any expansion that comes down the pike. If you were a D-I athletics director, unless you have a Sugar Daddy donor who can bankroll your entire program and get you into the NCHC or are in the Integer, why would you even consider adding ice hockey?
As for UAH, the NCHC can show us that it is truly "national" and their new conference isn't just about cutting loose the chaff by extending an invitation to the Chargers.

If Western stays in the WCHA UAH should be added to make 12 teams. The problem is we all know they don't want that so if they can bolt they will and then I doubt WCHA members would make a 11 team conference.
