CNE RELEASE
BEVERLY, Mass. – CJ Hapward of the Suffolk men's hockey team picked up Conference of New England (CNE) Goaltender of the Week for the second time this season after his performance at the Tampa College Hockey Invitational, the league office announced.
Hapward compiled a 96.7 save percentage and a 1.01 GAA to help the Rams reach the championships contest at the two-day tournament.
The West Caldwell, New Jersey product started action in the Sunshine State with a 34-save 1-0 shutout over Albertus Magnus. The win was Suffolk's first-ever over the Falcons and punched the blue-and-gold's ticket to the tournament's title tilt. The cleansheet marked Hapwards third in a row, all 1-0 margins, which is the longest shutout streak by a Rams' netminder according to the game-by-game record books, which dates through the 1999-00 season.
A day later, Hapward registered 24 saves in the championship contest against the Milwaukee School of Engineering.
For his efforts between the pipes, he was named to the Tampa College Hockey Invitational's All-Tournament Team.
The weekly accolade from the CNE is the second straight for Hapward, who wrapped up the fall semester with his first-ever distinction. He is the first Rams goalie to pick up a pair of weekly awards since Cal Wilcox garnered a pair in 2021-22.
Hapward and the Rams are back in action next week when they cap off their non-conference calendar Tuesday, Jan. 14 against Framingham State at Louis E. Porrazzo Memorial Skating Rink at 5:00 p.m.
