BU Terriers 2011-2012

The roster for next year has been posted on the website. I'm sure the schedule will come soon though some of the NC games have already been announced (Cornell, possibly North Dakota).

Quite worried about the lack of depth at the F position but things look as strong as last year on D, though it is pretty much impossible to replace an Olympian. High expectations for the upcoming season but I don't think BU will be as good on a national level as it seems that many other teams will have much improved rosters. Should be a more competitive HE schedule as BC returns a strong roster and brings in a top notch recruiting class and Northeastern and UVM have probably their best recruiting classes ever.

Thoughts?

Re: BU Terriers 2011-2012

Regarding the schedule, BU is hosting North Dakota and Niagara for two games each and Union for a single game. The will be playing at Wisconsin and Cornell for two games each and St. Lawrence and Clarkson for a single game each. They also host the Beanpot and play Harvard in the first round. That's 7 or 8 games vs. the other 3 FF teams, 5 on the road and 2 or 3 at home.

I don’t see a lack of depth at forward, but they do lose some experience, which is normal. I’m actually quite excited with the addition of Isabel Menard and I hope that she can adjust to Coach Durocher’s system as well as Jenn Wakefield did last season. On defense Catherine Ward is a tremendous loss, but I expect the three seniors to be able to fill the hole. BU will also need Anya Battaglino or one of the freshmen to step in and be a solid contributor like Kaleigh Fratkin did last season. My concern is in goal. In 2008-09 Kieran Millan had a great freshman season for the men, but he had a poor sophomore season. With a strong team in front of her I expect Kerrin Sperry to avoid a similar season, but I think her play will be vital to how good this team will be.

On the national level I think BU will be as good, but the level on non-conference play is much higher this season and W-L result will not be as important and the play on the ice in those games. Hockey East does look to be improved from top to bottom this season as well, which is good for the league and its teams. I think BU will still have the target on their backs, despite BC winning the league championship, so they will have to play up to their abilities every game.
