Brown Hockey 2017-2018: The Quest for Prosperity Continues

Mike Hutter

Brown Wins!
With the schedule for 2017-2018 out and the incoming class announced, and no decommitments or transfers as to that class, time to start a new thread. KDiff - A move away from your puns, which have been good.

Interesting start to the season

BTW Yale has an incoming F from the Albany area who shows a lot of promise. I watched him play a lot when in he played for Albany Academy. A bigger Brian O'Neill. I was hoping he would give Brown a look but apparently from early on he wanted Yale.

Re: Brown Hockey 2017-2018: The Quest for Prosperity Continues

Any one planning on going to Meehan this week to watch the College Hockey Showcase players/teams? Are the players invited? By whom?

Re: Brown Hockey 2017-2018: The Quest for Prosperity Continues

KDiff - If I am remembering correct that you are a rangers fan, note today the NYR signed Bobby Farnham to a PTO contract. That leaves from last year's group of Brown alums in NHL/AHL everyone signed but Yann and harry Z.

Yes, that's correct! The Rangers have a few injured forwards who won't be healthy for the first couple months of the season, so signing a guy like Farnham who has NHL experience and can skate is a necessary stopgap. I was thrilled when I saw the signing. Hope he makes a good enough impression to stick around. And I hope we sign Harry Z and Danis, too!

Re: Brown Hockey 2017-2018: The Quest for Prosperity Continues

Secondly - thanks for getting this thread up and running, Mike! I haven't been active on here in a while because 1. News has been scarce this summer (even compared to previous offseasons), and 2. My enthusiasm for Brown hockey is, frankly, at an all-time low after last season. I'm hoping that by setting my expectations especially low going into this year, I'll be pleasantly surprised.

We've said "it can't get any worse" for the past two years. Is this the year that finally rings true? And if not, will the administration prove that it even cares? Time will tell.

Some bad news: Assistant coach Josh Ciocco suffered some medical complications that resulted in expensive surgeries. Here's a GoFundMe link, in case anyone wants to donate: gf.me/u/cf2ij7

Re: Brown Hockey 2017-2018: The Quest for Prosperity Continues

Good to have you back. My first 50 years with brown hockey had one NCAA Frozen Four with Brown, and I am hoping there will be another one sooner than later.

Re: Brown Hockey 2017-2018: The Quest for Prosperity Continues

Euler: All players back?

Other than Tegtmeyer and Cooper, who I believe both hung up their skates for good, it appears that way looking at the rosters year-over-year. Looking forward to seeing what the incoming freshmen can bring, as well as how promising players like Brent Beaudoin develop. Plus, getting Brink and Lappin back will help.

Re: Brown Hockey 2017-2018: The Quest for Prosperity Continues

Nice writeup on Bird and some of his classmates in the NEHJ: http://www.hockeyjournal.com/nehock.../MobilePagedReplica.action?pm=2&folio=48#pg48

Bird says he thinks Brown will be largely improved this year, and, though I'm hesitant to get overzealous, I tend to agree. Last year's senior class combined for NINE points. NINE. And one of them was a goalie assist by Tim Ernst!

I see our current roster as being far more talented top-to-bottom than last year's, and if we get reasonably acceptable goaltending (like, anything north of a .900 save percentage, which should NOT be too much to ask for), I can see us moving up a few spots in the ladder in one of the weakest ECAC fields in quite some time. At the very least, I think we'll win 10 games. The ceiling is probably is in the area of 15 wins.

We'll see how things pan out, but I'm hoping (not expecting) things will be better this year.

I am in agreement with you. IMHO it looks like we will have at least 2 lines capable of producing goals on a regular basis. It would be nice to see secondary scoring from frosh and sophomores who show promise.

Re: Brown Hockey 2017-2018: The Quest for Prosperity Continues

Bruno in the NHL:

Hathaway survived cut and is now playing on Calgary's third line. Matt Lorito is on the Redwings roster but listed as on Injured reserve.

Nick Lappin was one of Devils last cuts and is with Binghamton Devils, and Harry Z was last cut of Panthers but signed yesterday a two way contact with Predators.

Dennis Robertson is back with AHL Hurricanes. Looks like Bobby Farnham and Yann Danis have not signed on with anyone, AHL or NHL Or ECHL, at this time.

Re: Brown Hockey 2017-2018: The Quest for Prosperity Continues

Hathaway was sent down to Stockton today to make room for Jagr Mike.
