'Big Ten Icons' To Feature Herb Brooks

Re: 'Big Ten Icons' To Feature Herb Brooks

I expect to be still trying to get out of the parking lot near Mariucci at that time so I better extend the record time on the DVR to catch it after the game.

Thanks for posting this. And thanks to Gurt for whining about it. :p

Re: 'Big Ten Icons' To Feature Herb Brooks

Yeah, thanks Dubber!

Could you start a thread for time and stations that I can catch the Don Lucia show?

Or maybe you could just post it in the Gopher thread. Yeah, I'd probably be able to find it there.

You seem to be the only one complaining. Unlike your idol Barry (aka.. College Hockey's Anti-Christ), Herb Brooks is a National icon. Thus it was posted for general consumption. Or are you just too damaged to get that?

And this needed it's own thread, why?

PS: Barry got his Icons show first. :p

Huge difference tho.

Barry would be considered the anti-christ of College Hockey compared to Herb, College Hockey's best bench boss of all time.

Key is, Barry is a fat, drunk womanizer who never won a national championship, yet is idolized by the people of one state.

Herb Brooks coached 3 teams to National Championships, was one of the most well known and respected ambassadors of the sport for which this board is dedicated, and played a big role in one of this country's biggest sports moments.

The Big Ten network gave the never a National Championship an Icons show for wrecking the WCHA. A hell of a legacy to sniff some paint thinner for.

Re: 'Big Ten Icons' To Feature Herb Brooks

They are now showing the 2002 NC game on the BTN... I love the ending. :)

Re: 'Big Ten Icons' To Feature Herb Brooks

Anyone else notice the emphasis on the All-American (actually All-Minnesotan in a few cases) makeup of Brooks's championship teams during this program?

It was a big thing for US hockey and something that Gopher fans should be proud of about their program, yet it is something that some fans from other fan bases try and down play.

It's what sets the Gopher program a part and is a big part of what made it the premier program in the country.

Re: 'Big Ten Icons' To Feature Herb Brooks

Just watched this. Wow, you are the last cut from the 1960 Olympic team. They go on to win gold and you r dad says, "Looks like they cut the right guy." Ouch. HB was amazing. He put the team ahead of himself, won, and gave the credit to the players. Barry was, and is, a self-promoting piece of crap that couldn't win it all.

NC-2002 is on now. I remember watching this the first time. I hardly sat down the entire game.

Watching it too. What a game. Arguably the best atmosphere for a championship game ever. The volume level after the Gophers tied the game late was INSANE.

That is was.
IIRC after ESPN signed off they started blowing the Wild goal horn...that was fun.

Last night was the first time I had seen the game on TV, Yeats must have had a horseshoe up his kiester.
