Beanpot LXXI: "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year"

Split-N

All Hail
Time to forget the season records and hyperventilate over whether or not Northeastern continues its recent Beanpot domination; whatever has happened to Harvard; and all things Commonwealth Ave.

Last year's finalists (defending champ NU and Hahvahd) have the early (5 p.m.) game with the Comm Ave Axis at 8 p.m. Wondering what the over/under on the total number of overtimes might be.

Anyway, let the snark begin.

This year's Beanpot is going to be biblical but I thought that if the OT is tied then they go to shoot out, which is exactly the wrong way to decide these games. Looking forward to it just like every other year.

Almost criminal that BU and BC are playing against each other in the first week.

It's the same rotating schedule every year since 1955. So each team plays the other 3 in succession. It's really the only fair way and still BU and BC have won 70% of the pots.

Looking at the Ticketmaster website, there is full row after full row of "verified resale tickets" available (especially for the 2nd night). I find it hard to believe there is so much precision in how many people who acquired tickets are now re-selling them. Are the schools themselves just trying to "re-sell" unclaimed tickets?

And - does anyone remember which corners are which schools?

Not sure about those numbers. Northeastern has been selling out ~10 student sections in recent years; BC pretty close to that; BU trailing. BTW, there are reports that both Harvard fans will be there.

I’m just giving you the basic areas; obv if there’s more demand they get more tickets (BC was filling 318-323 back in the day)

down below I’m not sure

Ah the preenial Beanpot discussion topics:

1. BU or BC? Or will someone else get lucky.

2. Whinging about getting the early game because getting there in time is blah.

3. Whinging about getting the late game cause the early game went over time. (although this year...ugh)

4. WILL IT SNOW? [add all the horror stories of past Beanpot blizzard traffic]

5. Harvard fanbase size jokes.

Indeed - maybe not exact but This gives me the needed info - thanks…. downstairs should correspond to the balcony sections.

As to the tickets listed on Ticketmaster —- red is a “verified resale” ticket.

It seems hard to believe that many individuals would happen to be trying to resell their tickets - all for the same exact price. That looks like schools trying to unload their unused tickets but who knows? Just odd looking to me.

Yes, of course I know all that. It is just bit a shame we won't see the #1 and #2 (currently) teams in the nation have a chance to battle it out in the championship game.

I'm not sure it's that - I think it's more TD Garden trying to get more for the tickets before. My source is I looked for tickets the same time I did last year through BU and I'm told that they're sold out this year. I could be wrong though, and if it is the schools trying to get more, that sucks.

I miss the days of STH's being able to request tickets.

There are hundreds of tickets available on Ticketmaster - all "verified resale" tickets... all in a row and all at the same price. I've always taken "verified resale" to mean that someone bought them and are now trying to sell them - but who knows.

If you are lucky you can get to see them battle it out for the actual national championship. Which is way more important given the drought for both in winning the final in over a decade.

The situation on Beanpot eve: BC and BU firmly in the national top ten; Northeastern clawing its way back from oblivion (with wins over BC and BU along the way); Harvard having an historically miserable season. So, the favorite is........?

You have to get to the championship to have a chance to win it, and Northeastern has the highest chance to get there. However, I would think the BC-BU winner is likely to take it all.
