This guy needs to spend 5 minutes in a dark alley with the other team's parents...and then be charged with assault on the goalie and be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. And when that's done, he needs to spend 10 more minutes in same said alley with same said parents just to make sure that he doesn't miss the point.

Was reading a bunch of the articles from different papers about this very pathetic incident...however according to most of the other (and more well-written) articles, after the parent was removed for shining the laser all around the opposing teams defensive zone (the losing teams goaltender even said the laser was being waved around the whole zone and was not just aimed at her eyes) the referees met with both coaches and school administrators and determined that there had been no complaints from the players to their coaches that they had been adversely affected by the laser...at which point the referees determined the game should continue.
I'm not making excuses for anyone...this is absolutely despicable and no punishment will be strong enough, IMO...but I don't think there's any evidence that the game should be forfeited. They immediately removed the guy and banned him, and nobody complained that they had been affected in a way that impaired their ability to play until after the game.
It is however disappointing to learn this particular parent has been kicked out of other games and has a history of this behavior. That alone should have warranted his being barred from the game from the get-go.
Very true. It was probably up to one or more players on the ice to go to the referees and the coach of Medway-Ashland to protest the actions of the parent and have the game stopped at that point to deal with the situation. The refs then should have made sure that all players were okay and ready to continue play before proceeding. But since no one protested, they were correct in saying that had no grounds to overturn the final score. Replaying a period is a tough proposition although certainly feasible.
I'm not sure I would ban all parents because most parents are good folks who truly care about the kids, both their own and those participating in the game. It is however disappointing to learn this particular parent has been kicked out of other games and has a history of this behavior. That alone should have warranted his being barred from the game from the get-go.
To be honest, I think the DA had to do some creative work to come up with that charge. I don't know what else they could've come up with because there was no proof of any physical harm. I'm going to guess his poor daughter will be in hiding. Pretty sad that his daughter will be punished more than him.
