Attendance Surge: causal factors?

Watching BC-UMASS on ESPN+ tonight and once again the crowd is a great one out in Amherst. I’m sure the turnaround back at BC will equal or better it.

Generally speaking, I think a lot of other teams are experiencing this.

Is it because crowds were rather ‘depressed’ the past few years and this is a return to ‘normal?’ Or is this truly a growth year?

I haven't looked into it a ton but I think we may be seeing a resurgence in hockey east because the level of play has been so good this year. I did look into BC's away games this year and almost every single one of their away games has been a sell out in addition to their own awesome attendance, it's pretty wild. Really fun year

Plus, 18,285 for both rounds of the Beanpot (Feb 5 & 12) and 18,410 for Michigan-Michigan State on Feb 10.

The new arenas that have been coming online are part of the answer as is TV exposure both locally and nationally through ESPN+. But it's deeper than that. UMass has always been hoops-centric but that's been turning around; BC hockey handily outdraws BC hoops (even though it's an ACC team). Same for Northeastern, BU, Maine, and NH. Providence and UConn not so much.

Michigan State has sold out every game this season. While I think it’s mostly because of the success after a decade+ in the wilderness, I’d love to hear our society in general is making a return to in-person entertainment rather than content+media consumption. That’s probably wishful thinking but it’s nice to hear college hockey around the country is popular again.
