Arizona State Moving To D1

Re: Arizona State Moving To D1

The NCHC would be glad to welcome another "like minded " institution into it's illustrious company.

Re: Arizona State Moving To D1

Add in Colorado - Boulder and another western school and Denver could blow up another conference.

University of Denver
Arizona State University
University of Colorado - Boulder

The National Collegiate Hockey Conference has been in contact with Arizona State, according a source, but no conference affiliation is imminent at this time.

You only need 6 teams, could start off with:

Denver
CC
Arizona State
Air force
Alaska Anchorage
Alaska Fairbanks

Then go from there...

Re: Arizona State Moving To D1

I was actually surprised USCHO fan forum didn't pick up on this earlier. I had first heard about it over a month ago but had thought it was all water cooler talk.

Re: Arizona State Moving To D1

Wonder what other Pac12 schools will make the jump next. Oregon could do it with the backing of Phil Knight.

Theoretically they're the next logical choice, but I wouldn't count any chickens before they hatch. It presumably took a LOT of tire kicking (and generous benefactors) for PSU and ASU to get off the ground.

Ok fair enough. I probably should have clarified my point better. Where I had heard it was from individuals that weren't associated with this forum (or at least as far I know they aren't on here.)

Re: Arizona State Moving To D1

The plan is for the Sun Devils, who won the American Collegiate Hockey Association championship last season, to play a hybrid schedule in 2015 with a mixture of DI and ACHA competition, followed in 2016 by a full DI schedule independent of conference alignment. The team plans to transition to full Division I membership in 2017 and will join a Division I conference, either the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) or the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA).
