Any hope for Wolverine Women's Hockey?

Re: Any hope for Wolverine Women's Hockey?

Now that the University of Michigan has a new AD, is there any chance a women's hockey program could be created? I believe the old AD was deadset against it.

LOL, yes as soon as pigs fly! ND and Denver will follow. What a shame that schools like Michigan, Notre Dame and Denver won't add hockey. I also heard that Red Berenson said he would quit if the added women's hockey.:(

There is a small town not too far from Ann Arbor named Hell, Michigan. There is a small creek that runs through it. With the current temperatures it is a sure bet that it has frozen over. Unfortunately, the odds of a Michigan Womens Varsity hockey team aren't nearly as good.

And I don't see anything in the article that would suggest otherwise, especially considering the financial challenges noted.

Re: Any hope for Wolverine Women's Hockey?

My understanding is that it was the men's coach that was dead set against sharing the rink with a women's team.

This is what I was told a few (five or six) years ago by some state reps from the Wisconsin association, not the college.

You are correct, Berenson is the catalyst behind that decision. I remember one conversation with an assistant coach a couple of years ago that Red considers hockey a sport only for men. I kinda got a chuckle when he said that because, if I recall correctly, Berenson got a severe case of alligator arms everytime he had to go into the corner for a loose puck.
