Another NCAA Plot Twist

I don't know what to tell you, it opens for me without wanting a subcription to read it. Anyone having a problem with the link and reading the story?

I actually have a digital subscription to the NY Times, but apparently that isn't good enough to open it up, even though the url is both "nytimes" and "athletic"

Very strange. I wonder why it opens for some and not others? It's a very informative and deep story worth reading. The other story I posted the link to is very different from the first story.

I wasn't able to open the link without subscribing either; however, when I googled, "NCAA Big 10 finances settlement" the article came up and I was able to open it, sans subscription. Weird.
Lots of issues with the NCAA settlement with a lot of colleges scrambling and left in limbo resulting in more lawsuits. Last week, a US District Judge scheduled another court hearing for Sept 26th.

Thanks for that info, I hope everyone can now access it.

So in addition to athletes getting scholarships, they're also going to be paid?? Wow. What has happened to our world? This will have so many ramifications on so many levels. You think youth parents are crazy now? Just wait. Companies are complaining that recent grads don't want to work hard? Just wait. These "student" athletes will go out into the real world and snub their noses at actually having a 9-5 job (or longer hours) to get paid when they were already used to getting paid to play sports and party. Their payment is their free education with zero or very, very minimal loans after graduating, which MILLIONS of students would kill to have. Apparently, that's not enough. If you can't tell, I am so against this.

Umm, you're a little late to the game here. NIL has been in place for a couple of years now. This debate is old news.

Not quite true. The final settlement had been up in the air. Schools have been winging it as the legal landscape was in flux and it might still be in flux depending on if South Dakota's lawsuit against the NCAA gains traction.

https://southdakotasearchlight.com/...e South Dakota, the University of South Dakota.

Sure I get it. But pucko was bemoaning the fact that athletes are going to be essentially professionals, and that ship sailed a long time ago. At this stage, we're just working out the details.

It's certainly going to be a different landscape for college athletics. When the pendulum swung too far one way with the NCAA profiteering off of student athletes it rarely when swinging back the other way stopps in the middle but goes too far the other way. It's going to be a cluster you know what.

OSU announced how they're going to adjust to the settlement. My only question is where does South Dakota's lawsuit against the settlement currently stand?

https://www.wkbn.com/news/ohio/ohio...-student-athletes-in-2025-pending-settlement/

"Ohio State varsity athletics will add 91 scholarships, but decrease its student-athlete population by 150 students"

Too bad there wasn't more detail on impact to individual sports. Does most of the reduction come from football? My opinion is that hockey doesn't see much of the money in this new world in most cases.
