Alvernia adds women’s team. Could men’s team and a MAC pullout of UCHC be far behind?

Alvernia adds women’s team. Could men’s team and a MAC pullout of UCHC be far behind?

It was announced today that Alvernia College is starting a women’s hockey program. That would give the MAC 6 women’s teams in 2019. You have to wonder if a men’s team will be added, as we head toward the MAC getting 7 teams and pulling out of the UCHC to form their own conference in hockey.
If that happens, I wonder what the UCHC does? We’d have Elmira, Nazareth, Utica, Neumann, and Chatham. Does the UCHC add Bryn Athyn and maybe Canton if that scenario unfolds?

On the men's side, Alvernia is one of a handful of D3 schools that seem to support their men's hockey (at least partially) and includes them as part of the athletic department despite the team playing at the club level. https://auwolves.com/index.aspx?path=mhockey

It would take some commitment from the school and the current coaching staff going all-in or a new fully committed staff to get the team up to D3 NCAA level. Right now they appear to have a mediocre record at the ACHA D3 level. It looks like they primarily recruit from local high schools, which doesn't cut it to even be competitive in top end of ACHA D2 and D1 levels. With some adjusted recruiting they could be competitive at NCAA D3 and certainly Reading, PA is a cool little hockey town with the Royals ECHL team and local hockey community pretty strong. Plus the school is close to the primary recruiting bases of New England prep, USPHL, EHL, and NA3HL leagues.
