I've met Joe Grimm, who submitted a couple of the words on that list and previous years' as well. Nice guy who works for the Freep.

And yes. "In these economic times" needs to go. We already know we're in a recession, and we're depressed enough about it. We don't need to be reminded at every corner. It's like they're mocking us. Phrases like that make me want to spend MORE money out of spite.
