2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season: Non-Minnesotans arguing about the weather

I thought neutral meant no real impact to the Atlantic season and that only La Niña tends to increase hurricane activity?

It usually does. IIRC, in an El Nino year, the jetstream rips the tops off the depression thunderstorms before they can organize. So El Nino usually means fewer hurricanes, especially majors.

Right but neutral is just no effect and it can be better or worse. Depends on the Atlantic.

We might be saying the same thing. I’m sleep deprived this morning. (Thanks kiddo.)

Has this been a placid season or am I just checked out here in AZ?
Very placid. Only up to G and we're getting into late Sept. Katrina hit New Orleans on Aug 29, so that's 11 storms in ~90 days (June 1 - Aug 29), for one storm every 8.1 days. This year, with G on Sept 18 (7 storms in 110 days), that's only one storm every 15.7 days.

The rainfall that began this morning in Phoenix just blew past 1.25 inches, with no sign of slackening.

Phoenix' median annual rainfall is 7.25 inches.

Phoenix' median annual rainfall is 7.25 inches.

Final official figure was 1.6

We had another heavy rain 9/27, but nothing as traumatic. Didn't help with existing flooding, though.

Everything is fine. (photos from the August monsoon, this one was worse)
