TovarishchLisa

Re: 2019-2020 Vermont Catamounts

Good luck to Sammy Kolowrat and Theresa Schafzahl at IIHF Worlds, as well as future Catamount Natalie Mlynkova (who is expected to join UVM for the 2020-21 season)

Re: 2019-2020 Vermont Catamounts

UVM at the women's worlds:

Sammy Kolowrat (CZE): 0-1-1, +3
Natalie Mlynkova (CZE): 3-0-3, +2 - Top 3 Player on Team - Not a Catamount yet, will join the team for 2020-21, iirc, but the hype!!
Theresa Schafzahl (AUT, D1A): 5-0-5, +1 - Austria team MVP

Re: 2019-2020 Vermont Catamounts

Captains named today.

Picard and O'Leary co-captains. The Star Trek jokes begin.
Shanahan and Granato assistants - have to think Tina's going to be the 2020-21 captain.

Re: 2019-2020 Vermont Catamounts

Newly-minted Captain Picard showing her value off the ice. At the College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences student awards last night, she received the Sean O'Flaherty Fahey award as UVM's top junior engineering student. Congrats!

Re: 2019-2020 Vermont Catamounts

Forgot to post this when the WCHA composite schedule came out, but the Windjammer Classic field is set. Clarkson, Minnesota State, and Penn State will be joining UVM this year.

Re: 2019-2020 Vermont Catamounts

Future Catamount goalie Jessie McPherson has been invited to Hockey Canada's U18 goalie camp roster. Cats have a real bright future in net between her and Ferenc

Re: 2019-2020 Vermont Catamounts

Congrats to Class of 2019 forward Saana Valkama who has signed with Linköping in the Swedish women's league.

Re: 2019-2020 Vermont Catamounts

Also, appears as though Greta Close has left the program. only one number change; Corinne McCool goes from #18 to #24, a number freed up by the graduation of Saana Valkama

I had to look up John Abbott College and it is an English speaking college in Montreal. The Coach is searching high and low for talent.

The CEGEP system in Quebec is a hidden gem. Most girls are a year older when they come out of school. It’s a transition ‘college’. Students go there after high school before they can go to university. The finish high school after grade 11 and then do 2 (or 3) years at CEGEP. The girls are older and more physically mature when they go to university.

Thanks for the info. They probably get a a decent amount of girls from Limilliou? That's been a powerhouse for years.

yeah and Burns/Levesque aren't the only current UVM players from a CEGEP, Tina Shanahan went to Dawson College.

Re: 2019-2020 Vermont Catamounts

Solid season-opening win (though granted not the best competition). Dominated in possession and the shot count, some good link-up play, a couple gritty clean-up-the-mess goals. Liked Karjalainen, McCool a lot. Blanka solid when she needed to be.

Re: 2019-2020 Vermont Catamounts

Prooobably should've won that one...hopefully Ferenc has a short memory because that wasn't a great first impression. But hey, might just be a case of beginners' suck, and Blanka looked good again.

McCool, Caldwell, Karjalainen took some big steps forward.

Re: 2019-2020 Vermont Catamounts

Solid weekend again! Offense looks confident so far, huge after some woes there the last few years. Let's keep up the positive momentum!

Re: 2019-2020 Vermont Catamounts

I know UVM lost yesterday, but the performances so far have largely been very encouraging...other than after going up 3-0 against unh

Re: 2019-2020 Vermont Catamounts

I think so, too. Even the failure to close out UNH may not be that bad if the Wildcats continue to show improvement over past years.
