Just wondering why they would schedule the game involving Plattsburgh the early game? Game 3: No. 1 Plattsburgh State vs. No. 4 Utica College - 3:30 PM

It is part of the reward for being the number 1 seed. Some conference may dictate the seeding game time or it maybe at the option of the team or host school. Generally the coaches would prefer to play the early (first game) because it gives there player an extra 3-4 hours additional rest until they play again. The players have longer to unwind from the game before they go to bed and can get to bed earlier for a better nights sleep. The primary reason a number 1 seed would play the night (evening) later game would be for more revenue.

I suspect the extra rest is the reason. The ECAC D1 tourney has a similar setup, with the Home/1st seed playing at 1pm and the second game with the middle seeds at 4pm, followed by the final the next day.

The final is at 3pm the next day...Assuming no OTs, the winner of the second semi-final will have 18 hours to regroup for the Championship game. Most teams would choose the extra rest.

That is what I figured, but in most other tourneys the home team plays in the nightcap.

Not in all tourneys. Since this format has been in place for the ECAC D1 league (since 2011), the home team/1st seed always elected to play in the early game for semi final day.
