Welcome to the WIAC and the new season for UW-Stout.

The 2013-2014 Hockey Season officially began yesterday with a 4-3 OT win by UW-Stout over Marian. It was a very exciting back and forth game ending on a penalty shot with about 22 seconds left in overtime by Kevin O'Donnell (Sr. Stoughton, WI).

UW-Stout started the game a little slowly allowing two goals to Tyler Klein at 1:17 and 4:28 of the first period. After Patrick Regan (Jr. Edina, MN) had a goal disallowed on an offsides, Matt Millis (Jr. Black River Falls, WI) scored an unassisted goal to cut the lead in half at 10:36 of the first period. Marian restored the two goal lead with a 4 on 3 power play goal scored by Tanner Burton at 15:44 of the first period.

UW-Stout's Logan Maly (Sr. Rio, WI) cut the lead in half again with a power play goal with assists to O'Donnell and Zach Vierling (Jr. Coon Rapids, MN) at 1:42 of the 2nd period. Kevin O'Donnell tied the game later in the 2nd period with a powerplay goal from Maly and Karl Anderson (Fr. River Falls, WI) at 11:19. After a back and forth 3rd period and overtime Kevin O'Donnell was awarded a penalty shot with 22 seconds left in overtime, scoring on a snap shot the went 5-hole on Josh Baker the Marian goaltender.

Marian-Josh Baker 49 saves

Kevin O'Donnell-2 goals and 1 assist

After a slow start I thought that the young team responded well, They outshot the opponent almost 2:1. It will be interesting to see which freshmen play next game?

I caught the end of the game last night - by far one of the craziest endings to a game I have seen! What a great way to kick off the Div III season :cool:
