2011-2012 NCAA Week 6 Rankings

For those of you who have been voting previously, here is the thread to post your "ballot" of top-10 teams. If you have never posted before, but would like to, here is where you post your top-10. If you would like your ballot to be counted, make sure to have your top-10 posted in this thread by Monday (Nov 14) by 1pm Eastern.

Here is my top 10...

1. Notre Dame - The Irish's two losses (@ Duluth and vs. Ohio State) don't look too bad now. Couple that with the other top teams faltering on the weekend have Notre Dame #1.
2. Merrimack - The Warriors needed a late goal to force overtime against BU, but remained unbeaten with a quick goal in OT.
3. Minnesota - An inconsistent weekend for the Gophers, but Madison is a very difficult place to win games, so the split should be well received in the Cities.
4. Boston College - An embarrassing loss to their rival on Sunday doesn't erase the strong start from BC
5. Minnesota Duluth - The Bulldogs have quietly regained top form over the last few weeks, and look like the defending national champions
6. Colorado College - The Tigers played well against their rival DU despite falling just short of a great comeback. These two squads should provide for some great hockey the rest of the way.
7. Ferris State - The Bulldogs from Big Rapids beat LSSU on Friday before losing in a shootout on Saturday.
8. Nebraska Omaha - The Mavericks finally solved Bemidji State, and only a late game-tying goal on Friday kept UNO from the sweep.
9. Ohio State - The Buckeyes are trying to prove they are for real, and the weekend sweep over Northern Michigan has Ohio State on a 6-0-1 streak.
10. Yale - The third group of Bulldogs to make my top 10, Yale came away from the Capital District with two impressive wins over RPI and Union to place themselves as the favorite once again for the ECAC title.

Honorable Mention:
Michigan
Western Michigan
Union
Michigan Tech
Cornell
Denver

As always, comments are appreciated and please post your top-10s.

Re: 2011-2012 NCAA Week 6 Rankings

First, a few comments. CCHA looks really strong right now. Top 7 very strong. Probably because of good non conference results. Will that hold? Notre Dame has games remaining with BC and Minny at least. Mich State has 2 with the Gophers. Who else? These games are important in the Pairwise for 2 reasons: First, the record of your conference-mates determines part of your RPI. Second, OOC results play strongly into the Common Opponents part of the comparisons. Also, among top teams, there are TUC considerations. It has often been said on this board that your team winning games against the lower echelon is necessary (your RPI falls too far if you lose). However, it is actually true that if you want to choose a loss versus a weak team, or vs a strong team, it is better to lose against the also-ran, and beat the upper echelon team, for TUC considerations....

Now, to this week:

1 – Merrimack - Still the only unbeaten...

2 – Ferris State - Played a slightly tougher schedule than Minnesota

3 – Minnesota - From #1 to #3 by splitting on the road against a rival

4 – Boston College - Bad game against BU. When do they play Notre Dame??

5 – Minnesota-Duluth - Continue to improve after that sweep by Minnesota at Amsoil

6 – Notre Dame - KRACH says they are higher than this

7 – Michigan - Drops 2 places after a tough weekend at Miami

8 – Colorado College - Lost at Denver, so they need to drop, but showed lots in the way they battled back

9 – Yale - Top dog in the ECAC

10 – LSSU - FSU got to them, but still...

Honorable Mention: Ohio State, Mich State, Western Mich because CCHA seems deep this year.
Denver because they seem on the upswing,
Mich Tech because their up year is such a great story

Re: 2011-2012 NCAA Week 6 Rankings

Tough week again. Here's mine.

Merrimack- continues to play well against tough teams.
UMD-- I am very impressed with Duluth's solid play, especially on the road and against tough teams.
Minnesota- took a game off but still very good
BC-- Not impressive lately.
Notre Dame- I have my doubts but the split at Duluth looks better and better
Michigan- still very talented- maybe Miami is righting the ship.
UNO- have quietly been quite good. No one wants to play them for sure.
CC- The goaltending was my question mark before the season started.
Yale- starting to pick it up but a long way to go.
FSU- will be tough all year for visitors

hon mention- LSSU, Denver, PC.

I'm not sure if you are aware that he has a deadline of 1pm eastern on Monday.

Re: 2011-2012 NCAA Week 6 Rankings

I was not. Thanks for the info for the future.

No worries. I usually post the thread sometime on Sunday, and then I have to close the voting portion of it at 1pm Eastern on Monday so that I can compile information and send it to where it needs to go. Just keep an eye out for it, and if you can, try and vote by 1pm Eastern. I would definitely like to have another voter from out East.
