2010 Olympics - Everything Vancouver

Re: 2010 Olympics - Everything Vancouver

The key to winning in a short, elimination tournament like this Olympic tourney is hot goaltending. You simply don't have time to really adjust players and systems the way you would in a seven game series, when you know every nuance of your opponent by game 3 or so.

If Team USA gets hot goaltending, they can be a medal threat against anyone, becuase there is enough offense here to manage 2-3 goals per game. The key is only giving up 1 or 2 at the other end.

Since these games are on NHL sized rinks, strong, physical, shot blocking defense will also take priority over the skating speed we'd see on Olympic ice.

Team USA will have some grit, but they need to play smart and stay out of the box, becuase the power-play units on teams like Canada, Russia, Czechs etc will be able to move the puck quickly.
