Malts18

And the youngsters shall lead them
Not sure what to call this thread, but you get the gist of it.... the FCS Tourney Bracket will be announced at 10am Sunday on ESPNU. 10 automatic bids and 10 at-large teams will square off. Here are the teams I expect to make it:

Auto-bids

Montana State (Big Sky Conf)
Coastal Carolina (Big South Conf)
William & Mary (Colonial Athletic Assn)
Bethune-Cookman (Mid-Eastern Athl. Conf)
Northern Iowa (Missouri Valley Foot. Conf)
Robert Morris (Northeast Conf)
Southeast Missouri State (Ohio Valley Conf)
Lehigh (Patriot League)
Appalachian State (Southern Conf)
Stephen F. Austin (Southland Conf)

At-Large Teams

Eastern Washington (Big Sky)
Delaware (CAA)
New Hampshire (CAA)
Villanova (CAA)
Western Illinois (Miss. Valley)
Jacksonville State (Ohio Valley)
Wofford (Southern)
Georgia Southern (Southern)
Jacksonville (Pioneer)
Montana (Big Sky)

Thoughts?

Well, Jacksonville and Montana did not make the field.... rather S. Carolina St and North Dakota St got the bids. Not sure the reasoning behind ND State... SC St I get... good team that was on the bubble. But ND State? Hardly impressive after their 3-0 loss to Missouri State. Whatever... the field is set and we are good to go next weekend!

After 15 years they needed to give NDSU their home playoff game at the cowdome.

6-5 Coastal Carolina looks more of a problem to me.
How does a 6-5 team get in and two 10-1 teams don't?

Automatic birth. They won their league, so they're in. In any playoff system, be it what FCS uses, D2, or D3, the best way to make sure you make the playoffs is to win all of your games, and short of that, winning your conference, especially if our conference has an automatic birth. Kind of makes me glad that D2 has Earned Access instead of an automatic birth. Its not a perfect system, but it does at least require a team to be at least a little better than .500 on the year to be in the playoffs.

So you think Montana with 7 wins, with one of them being against a DII teams should make it over NDSU with 7 wins and one of them against a BCS team? The article in the Fargo paper today made it seem like it was down to NDSU and Liberty University anyway.

Whoops, missed that they were an auto bid.

Villanova is leading top-ranked Appalachian State, 42-24, with 10 minutes remaining. Game is on ESPN.

What in the hell happened in the NDSU-EWU game? How is that a fumble? How is that a touchback? The Bison got absolutely screwed over.
