2010-11 Minnesota High School Hockey

The season has already started. It looks like the usual suspects will be right there again this year.

This year I think Wayzata will be the team to beat, and that is probably a pretty common opinion. The problem is they're in Section 6, and any of the top 4 (Eden Prairie, Benilde, Minnetonka, Wayzata) could come out of that section, they are all in the top 8 in the preseason.

I also really like Apple Valley this year, with A.J. Michaelson and Hudson Fasching they have a chance to be very good. They have already knocked off Bloomington Jefferson, and play Eden Prairie tonight. We'll see how good they are tonight.

Burnsville could make some noise also, they bring back one of the best goalies in the state, and they have already knocked off Hill-Murray this year. I see Section 2 coming down to Burnsville and Edina this year.

My early pick for worst team in the state has to be Mankato East. They lost to Holy Family 18-0, and Holy Family isn't even good.

Here are the Let's Play Hockey rankings:

Sad. No city teams. :(
There aren't many left. All of the Minneapolis city schools combined to make 1 co-op team, named simply Minneapolis, and they got stuck in Section 6, so good luck with that. And all of the St. Paul schools are now playing at A level, now that Johnson has been moved down. There just aren't enough kids playing hockey in the city, and the ones that play and are good end up playing for Cretin, Holy Angels, Hill-Murray, etc.

Re: 2010-11 Minnesota High School Hockey

I think the new one this week will have Wayzata at 1 since they beat Edina 3-2 last weekend. Not sure how far Edina will fall, but probably still top 5.

The Johnson & Como youth associations have merged and I'd guess less than a quarter of the Como team are Central (co-op) kids so it probably won't be long before the HS programs also need to merge. It will be interesting to see if Highland Park can sustain its program.

Re: 2010-11 Minnesota High School Hockey

Coon Rapids accepts this challenge.
We'll see, I think I'm going to go watch them tonight. Since I want to watch hockey but don't feel like driving far enough to see a good game. The one I want to see is Eden Prairie and Apple Valley, but it will take more than an hour to get to EP's arena from here.

Also think I'm going to Blaine-Roseau tomorrow night.

SoH, your CR team is already winning. They're not that bad.

With Tenna B as the coach this is suprising! ;)

How bad is Chaska going to be? Chanhassen?

Tenna's team looks good. Not a whole lot of talent but they are outworking woodbury so far and taking advantage of their chances. One defenseman has made a couple very nice plays.

Chaska is going to suck, and Chanhassen will be words. Does chanhassen have a varsity team this year? Isn't this the first year that school is open?

Second year it has been open. Last year they were together with Chaska as the Storm Hawks.

Ok, so Coon Rapids ended up losing that game, but they were respectable. Goaltending was ****ty. I need to go to better games in the future, maybe Blaine-Roseau tonight at Fogarty.

When someone at Coon Rapids High School got the idea "Hey lets have skating cheerleaders!", they should have asked the cheerleaders if they had EVER been on skates in their lives, before actually going through with the plan. As you might suspect, hilarity ensued. I knew it was going to be funny when 4 out of the 6 had to hold onto the boards on their way onto the ice. Also, the dude in the Coon Rapids mascot uniform has a serious creepy thing for 14 year old girls...

Ain't this town great?

The only good goaltender Crapids ever had is Ashton Lobejko, then he was lit up 6-0 by the Tornadoes in the 2003 section 5 final en route to a state championship for Anoka.

According to the little booklet they handed out yesterday, this is the first year of him being the goalie coach for the team. Maybe he can teach them not to suck.
