18 NHL draft picks...or 3-4 year players?

Looks like all the programs with 37 NHL draft picks (some have 4-5 1/2 rounders) doesn’t equal tourney success over the past several seasons...UND in 2016 comes to mind where they were loaded with picks...the favorites and they were NCAA champs. What is more important today?? Staff that develop and keep players 3-4 years or high end talent that leave after 1-2? The gritty more experienced teams are rolling now.

You are missing the other issue, the teams with the draft kids are almost always much younger teams, because drafted kids are not usually 20 or 21 year old freshmen.

Definitely. I think that 2016 UND roster is what all the bigger schools are hoping for in putting together a roster. A couple of super high skill players from near the top of the draft (Boeser and Schmaltz), lower round picks who will stay and provide skill and leadership (LaDue, Poolman, Poganski), and some late developing, undrafted 4 year guys who become the heart of the team (Stecher, Caggiula). The smaller schools aren't going to get the Boeser and Schmaltz types, so you have a skill advantage, but you still need those other guys to put together a real championship team.
