Two UW-Stout hockey players accused in the death of another Stout student, will not play hockey this year and will not be eligible for reinstatement to the hockey team.
UW-Stout officials say Jedidiah McGlasson and Jared Britton have been charged with assault and felony murder, both as party to the crime in Bradley Simon’s death.
The university says eight other players were told they will not be eligible to play for Stout this year. They will be eligible for reinstatement at the end of that period, if approved by the Athletic Department and the Dean of Students. The university says those students were present in the Log Jam tavern the night of the incident.
The university says these actions were based on violations of the provisions of the Student-Athlete Code of Conduct. It contains specific guidelines for behavior, both on and off the field, including actions while engaging in high risk alcohol use.
In September, prosecutors filed criminal charges against two UW-Stout hockey players who are suspected in the death of another Stout student. The criminal complaint shows a witness saying 22-year-old Bradley Simon had made a comment about what 23-year-old Jared Britton was wearing that made him upset. It goes on to say a bouncer from the bar that the three of them left on September 18th saw a man, who the district attorney says was 21-year-old Jedidiah McGlasson, push Simon while he was riding a bike. Police say the bike hit a concrete wall, throwing Simon at the wall head-first. The complaint says other hockey team members were at the bar at the time.
