Re: NCAA Playoffs: Augsburg at St. Norbert - Round 4

Just glancing an noticed that Augs beat an tied SNC this year.
Is SNC getting the home game as result of facilities at Augs or did
Augs just get hoosed by the NCAA?

That argument always seemed kind of tautological to me. The reality is anything can happen in a one game playoff. Even if you think your team has a 60% chance of winning, that means you still have a 40% chance of losing. I wouldn't want to spin that revolver chamber any more times than I need to.

Home ice is based on the Pairwise rankings, and SNC is ranked ahead of Augsburg.

No horse in this race but when talking about teams with similar records the face to face meeting
should prevail rather than some statistical crap. Hmm, I see the games were played at Augs earlier this year.

Once again, everything this year was based on the PWR. Period. End of story. That is the only statistic that counts. Crap or not.

New to D3? This is great compared to way it used to be.

                  somewhat sarcasm alert..

Oh, even the 2008 SNC team, which finished 27-1-4 couldn't beat Gustavus that year, or the 2017 Norwich team couldn't beat Endicott. It's a matter of making sure you beat them at the right time!

We could explain it to him, again.

Pairwise rankings are composed of 3 components, each worth 1 “point”, with RPI being the tiebreaker. The three components are: Record Head-to-head, Record against Common-Opponents, RPI (conglomeration of winning %, opponent’s W%, Opponents’ opponent’s W%). So, not only are SNC and Augsburg being compared to each other, but every other team in the nation. The number of comparisons won against all others = their relative rank in PWR. With 83 teams in D3 this season, the max number of comparisons won is 82...UWSP.

Augsburg won 75 comparisons, SNC won 79, hence the higher seed.

In other parts of this board they’d say “Simple Math”

Every team in the history of the world has been undefeated against bye.

Couple years I would have taken the bye over the Cleveland Browns.

They might have squeaked out a tie.
