I wasn't actually saying confirmation bias is part of the response pattern, but that we evaluate that pattern of responses through various biased lenses -- i.e., we impose pattern, we do not detect it.
So if you are hung up on a certain narrative, say, "no good deed goes unpunished," you can find hundreds of such cases in history. That's not because the narrative is real, it's because you can find hundreds of examples of ANYTHING in history. One could construct an internally-consistent theory of human nature based on any hypothesis in this scholarly collection.
People privilege the particular view of humanity that was poured into their little head at birth. But all narratives are themselves human creations. They aren't real. Generalized sociologies, like religions, are strictly for entertainment.
