I thought it was amusing that someone thinks that a .50 caliber rifle seems like a product someone needs to buy, so I posted my observation about its use in WWII.
Kepler seems to have gotten my post, which is strange because Kepler rarely seems to get my posts, but whatever.
If you really want to enact gun control, you might try legislation that requires all rifles to be .50 caliber or larger, because honestly I don't see too many people who would be interested in buying one. There are reasons why infantry men in WWII biatched about having to carry the .50 caliber machine gun. That weapon, and its ammo, is frigging heavy. That community is already in the process of dissolution where each man begins to eye his neighbor as a possible enemy, where non-conformity with the accepted creed, political as well as religious, is a mark of disaffection; where denunciation, without specification or backing, takes the place of evidence; where orthodoxy chokes freedom of dissent; where faith in the eventual supremacy of reason has become so timid that we dare not enter our convictions in the open lists, to win or lose.

The .50 caliber rifle is the ultimate d*ck enhancer...
It's pretty common to see ranges that charge $10-20/shot for random people to shoot one... THey'll even let you keep the cartridge.
As far as owning one, it's purely for bragging rights. There is absolutely no reason to have one for sport. The firearm is too bulky to be practical in the field. No one is shooting 1000yds + either. Something most people don't realize is that firearm is also pretty dang pricy to fire. Each trigger pull is around $5-7.

It's the same question for the Desert Eagle .50.....do you really NEED one? No, you don't. I think a .44 or .45 would do just fine for your needs.Never really developed a taste for tequila. Kind of hard to understand how you make a drink out of something that sharp, inhospitable. Now, bourbon is easy to understand.

On the other hand, it might not be such a terrible idea to stick one of those .50 calibers in my golf bag.
