I cannot find the specific language. I believe the pitcher must complete 3 consecutive PA as P or end the inning. So you couldn't do the Mets' McDowell/Franco trick from the 1985 Reds' game (have both in the game, flip them between P and RF).

I hope they will exempt IBB from the PA count, since that effectively drops it to 2 or even 1, but I doubt they will.

You will declare the position for the player. Batting order is NOT tied to defensive position.

So much talk about the "severe punishment" that's in store for the Astros (and maybe later then for the RedSox) following the sign stealing scandals. What is really going to happen to either team? I wonder if MLBs definition of severe is what mine is.

Probably not. It's likely just a loss of draft picks (international for sure, maybe a mid/late round general draft).

With a little over a third of all ballots now known, it looks like Larry Walker could finally get into the Hall of Fame. Derek Jeter still has a shot at getting a unanimous selection (and after Rivera finally broke that mark, he should be a no brainer 100%er), and Curt Schilling is in decent shape. Bonds and Clemens are currently right on the cusp %-wise based on the public votes, but will likely fall short when all ballots are tallied. Should be interesting.

No. Cheating is cheating, whether or not you are good enough at it to maximize your profits. Punish Houston like you would the Yankees, Cubs or Dodgers. Frankly I don't think MLB really cares too much about the Astros sign stealing, they are just publicizing it to keep baseball in the sports news loop at a time when no one would be looking much at it. The Hot Stove League and the Hall of Fame announcements don't have the pull they had 25 or 30 years ago.

That's fairly severe. Worse than I thought they'd get.
That community is already in the process of dissolution where each man begins to eye his neighbor as a possible enemy, where non-conformity with the accepted creed, political as well as religious, is a mark of disaffection; where denunciation, without specification or backing, takes the place of evidence; where orthodoxy chokes freedom of dissent; where faith in the eventual supremacy of reason has become so timid that we dare not enter our convictions in the open lists, to win or lose.

The fine is hilarious. $5M? Seriously? How about $100M?

I thought the fine was an afterthought, like fining someone $5000 on an armed robbery in addition to sending them away for three years.

Loss of the manager and gm, and loss of the draft picks, is pretty significant, imho.
